Bastion - The Electric Hub of Mankind

The only city that matters. Too big to fall, too complicated to function. A mess of alleyways, legalese and crowds. Aliens, Mockeries and People always in your way and your business.

Everybody’s here.

Everything is here.

In Deep Country, the land stretches forever. The long shadow of our embarrassing past. Villages rot away, trees don’t bother to flower anymore, and the potato is eaten cold from the ground. Things were better before. Better before Bastion.

In the Underground are impossible tunnels beneath time and space. Devious machines release their creations into the corridors. All while the twisting network grows and touches everything. Connects everything. You can get anywhere, but there’s always a challenge.

You have a failed career and a colossal debt.

Treasure is your only option.

A spark of hope in Electric Bastionland.

Electric Bastionland is a roleplaying game written by Chris McDowall, author of the critically-acclaimed Into The Odd. It uses and expands upon the systems developed in Into The Odd, resulting in a rules-set that’s easy to run as a Referee and even easier to play. It’s not a sourcebook or an expansion - it’s a standalone journey into an unknowable world.

Hi Chris,

I absolutely love your work. Looking forward to Into the Odd remastered when it arrives!

I'm not sure how to contact you - do you still check these discussions? I would like to discuss writing an Into the Odd based game and asking your permission to do so.

Great work, but NO BOOKMARKS.

Dude, you really can't be charging this much for an e-doc without bookmarks. I bought the physical product + pdf at bastionland press, so I suppose my pdf might for some reason be different, but that's unlikely and doesn't help physical buyers.

Unfortunately, it's not a simple process for publishers to make their product available as print on demand, so it's probably unlikely you'll ever see a PoD for this one.

It really isn't a simple process for a publisher to make their product available as a PoD, so I wouldn't really expect to see this if it's not available at this point.

Hi Chris. Was looking around for more games to review on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/GlenHallstrom) and ran across Questing Beast's reviews of your games. This book looks fantastic butis there a significant mechanical difference from Into the Odd? Just wondering if I should look into Into the Odd first or go straight to this book.

Hi! Just read the artikel in Tabletop Gaming. The game really caught my eye! Seems great. As an old fashion collector I would really like the physical book. Will it be released as a POD here? Really hope so.

I for some reason can't get to the review pages. 5 stars for sure. I loved Into the Odd and this is even better in it's own way. Totally rules light and freeform. The layout and artwork is fantastic and sets a mood (except for all the black). The rules are set up to get playing right away and although I thought this might have been what most game designers do, make another edition and ruin it by adding in every extra rule suggestion and ruing an otherwise simple fun game, the author did not do that. Every page is useful in telling how this new Bastion is and how it all works. Absolutely a masterpiece. The only major problem is all the non-printer friendly black in the layout. It would wipe out years of black toner in one printing. I no longer have access to industrial printers. Can you possibly make low solid black printer friendly version?

Great that the book is released! The images are however very compressed och pixelated, certainly in comparison with the first release to Kickstarter backers. Could there perhaps be two versions, one smaller for older tablets and a higher resolution version for desktops?

I'm looking at doing a high-res version a little further down the line, so it's definitely going to happen at some point.

No plans for PoD yet, as I've done a print run that should cover demand for a good while. I'll be posting information about how to buy those books (if you didn't already pre-order) when they land.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
