The rain-slick streets gleam like silver on a circuit board and holographic signs paint the metroplexes in a river of neon. The city stretches as far as the eye can see, from the toxic coast to the city limits where the walls keep the wasteland from encroaching. Despite advances in technology most people continue to live as cogs in a machine, distracted from their ineffectual lives by slick consumerism and invasive media.

You are a cyberpunk, a desperate individual with valuable skills, willing to put your life on the line in return for a little cash, reputation or leverage. With a lot of effort and a little luck you may survive the dangerous streets long enough to fulfill your goals and escape this life of violence and trouble.

NEON CITY OVERDRIVE is a fast-playing RPG of cyberpunk action. With a focus on story and action, character creation is fast and the rules are intuitive. Create any kind of cyberpunk character you want and throw them into the action within minutes.

  • Simple, intuitive D6 dice pool system
  • Create any kind of cyberpunk you can imagine
  • Broad sandbox setting and random tables help make the setting your own

NEON CITY OVERDRIVE supplements

Skinjobs: Rules and information about ghost chips and re-skinning in the neon city.

Loved the video. It's great to see the differences between standard and premium, making it clear both that standard is really good and loses absolutely nothing in practicality, as well as that premium really is next-level gorgeous.

I also think your idea of how to use the back cover was genius. One question, though: did you add the page references there after noticing they might be useful?

Thanks for the kind comment!
I have not changed the back cover, as the turn around time for uploading new files and getting new print proofs is quite long. If I ever need to do a major revision (hopefully not!) I may add them then.

What about listing the other supplements under Skinjobs on this page? It might help folks find them a little easier? :)

Although my usual cyberpunk ruleset is an OSR I feel very comfortable with, I have a kind of philia with reading every cyberpunk game that comes out. Most of the time they feel interesting (or not), but I just let them rest and go on with my usual ruleset. Neon City Overdrive is the first game that made me want to actually try it on the table. It touches the main strenghts of PbtA and Fate, without all the fluff and "extras" that most games have. For instance, while all the world and type of cyberpunk The Sprawl offers is exactly the kind I love (Neuromancer and Blade Runner over Altered Carbon, if you can say so), I feel there are too many rules and lists of consequences to every Move for a game that should focus on narrative. As an aside, if I were to play a cyberpunk PbtA, I'd go for Yesterday's Tomorrow.
I've already "booked" three sessions with my group to try this game; maybe just a tiny nibble, but I didn't want to let this game rot in the shelf.

And as we will play...See more

There is a form-fillable character sheet on the Peril Planet website. Is this what you are after?

I was thinking about translating the character sheet to spanish for my players. Would you be interested in having a translated version in your website? Or I can send you the translated words if you want to make the character sheet yourself for some legal reasons.

Hi I love this systemso much! But trying to figure out the odds is driving me crazy. (and other people too see rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/171498/how-to-calculate-the-probabilities-for-eliminative-dice-pools-dice-cancelling-m . Is it conceivable to present a table with percentages of sucess for N-action die Vs N-danger die?

Is there a character sheet in roll20?
Customer avatar
Nathan R June 08, 2020 4:22 am UTC
PUBLISHER
No unfortunately. There is a form-fillable PDF on the Peril Planet website, but when I looked at the roll20 character sheets they required a bit of technical skill that I do not possess.

It would be well worth it if you could find someone who did. There's a subtle benefit of people clapping eyeballs on the name of your game and company whenever they scroll through the list. I would also have a much easier time introducing this game to my non-local friends if all they needed to do was log on to the VTT site.

The character creation section is a little confusing. I found the letter size character sheet on your website and that helped a little. Breaking the Trademarks into categories was also a little confusing at first but I think I figured it out: Background is a category of Trademarks, Arcology Brat is that Trademark, for example. Now there are five spots for Trademarks on the character sheet, and five categories of Trademarks, but I only get three Trademarks, correct? Also, the list of Triggers after each Trademark: do I pick four for each Trademark or four total? Finally, is there a list of Edges somewhere? I'm not sure how the Triggers translate into Edges.

An example of character creation would also be very helpful.

Thanks in advance - this is a beautiful book - the art, color, layout. I really want to figure out how this works!

Thank you!
Just in case anyone else is unsure about character gen, I will attempt to answer your queries anyway.

1. Each character begins with three Trademarks. The book divides them into categories for organisation / ease of finding concepts BUT these have no bearing on what you can choose. The supplements even add more categories (!). Just pick three trademarks you think are cool.

2. Each trademark has a list of triggers that show the kinds of things that concept can do. They give “permission” for your character to attempt stuff. Your trademarks automatically have all the listed triggers (and you can change/adjust/re-write them if you want). The triggers don’t add bonus dice, but tell you when you should use that particular trademark for actions.

3. Characters begin with four edges. They can be attached to any trademark (two in on trademark, one in another and one in a third, for example; or all four edges under one trademark; etc.) An edge will add +1 action...See more

HI! Looking to buy, but was wondering if there was any chance of a wee bundle deal for core, psions and skinjobs on the way?
Customer avatar
Nathan R May 13, 2020 11:14 pm UTC
PUBLISHER
Hi, thanks for the question. There will be a bundle, but not for at least a month. (I am hoping to coincide it with the PODs being available for all products.) At that time the price of the core rules and supplements will go up to their “full” price, and the bundle will only save you a couple of dollars over what you will pay now for the individual PDFs.

What is the difference between Trigger and Edge?
Customer avatar
Nathan R May 12, 2020 1:22 am UTC
PUBLISHER
Think of a trigger as granting “permission” - they are the sorts of things a trademark can do. If you attempt something that is listed as / covered by triggers then use that trademark for the action (and give yourself an Action die for that trademark). Edges are “specialisations” - things you are quite good at. A relevant edge will grant an extra Action die, on top of the die you get for the trademark.
For example, all Bounty Hunters have the awareness trigger so you could use that trademark when you try to spot/notice something (getting +1 action die for “Bounty Hunter”). If your bounty hunter has the edge “awareness” then you would get +2 action dice for spotting stuff: one for the trademark and one for the edge.
I hope this helps.

I have taken down POD for a short time in preparation for adding the minor updates that were included in a previous PDF update. These are simple typo fixes and 3 sentence changes and do not in any way affect the usability or enjoyment of the book for those who previously purchased hardcopies.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
