Welcome to Legends

Legends is a rules-lite, setting free Fantasy RPG. The game is quick to set up and character creation is lightning fast. If you want to jump into a game which can be a single adventure played over a few hours or a campaign played over week’s then Legends will allow you to do both.

For an 80 page book it is quite expensive to pay $75 for a hard copy - is there a plan to release a soft-cover/standard color POD?

I am liking the simplicity of this system and it seems pretty easy to adapt and expand. For example I would be tempted to add a Charm (RAP) or Crafting (INT) skill, and it might benefit from a talent/feat system.

I have many questions.

There’s a Brawl skill but unarmed damage is not included... can you provide that?

Also, the Heal Skill, how many wounds will a successful check restore?

I see the XP chart on costs to improve but there’s no advice on how many points to give out per session, encounter, milestone, etc. Can you expand on that?

On both the Physical Health and Mental Health tracks there are benchmarks like Injured, Serious, Fearful, Scared, Terrified, etc. What mechanical consequences are there, if any, for being reduced to them? If that’s explained anywhere, I missed it.

And Healing restores wounds, what restores checked off Mental Health boxes?

Movement. There’s, like, nothing on it. Is it in feet, meters, squares, areas, etc? How far can a PC move? How far can the monsters move? Anything you could share would be appreciated.

Looking through the rules, I am assuming:

1) You just roll Strength dice as it’s a melee attack. If you are using a weapon, you would add the weapons damage on top. Creatures using claws, teeth also have a damage rating for that so small claws might be Strength plus d4, large claws strength plus d8 etc.

2) given that normal healing is pretty low (1 or 3), probably in the same range ie 1 for a use of first aid, or could base it on inflicting damage (1 wound per 2 full points over difficulty. Difficulty could be based on injury level, so Injured (5), Wounded (8), Seriously Wounded (12), Dying (15) etc.

3) I agree, but you could judge this by the costs. 1-3 per session would seem about right.

4) I think this is largely narrative- monsters just have Wound boxes. However you could apply -1 per category below Injured or Scared, to relevant tests. ...See more

That is a long list.
So what Justin wrote below seems pretty on point.

1. Unarmed damage is your Strength
2. Heal skill is pretty low D4
3. GM should decide on points based on how quickly they want the characters to progress.
4. Mental health heals naturally there are no Psychiatrists in Legend
5. Health track is Narrative
6. The game is more theatre of the mind, so I tend not to worry about movement but employ whichever system you prefer.
7. As stated it is the same as a skill so your stat plus spellcasting, this is covered on page 32.
8. Things last for as many rounds as they continue so fire will last until it is put out or the victim dies, but again just throw a number on there based on how much you like/hate the victim.
9. Monsters can fight monsters, what else would they do whilst waiting for hapless adventurers to appear.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
