And the Stars Never Rise: A Something Strange Genesys Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"You and your group of friends were inseparable in high school, but the death of one of your group due to mysterious circumstances caused you all to drift apart. Now, ten years later, you start seeing news from your old small hometown in Texas of other mysterious deaths that are eerily familiar. You return home in hopes of finding a way to finally put that nightmare to rest."

This adventure takes three to six player characters through a simple story that serves as an introduction to the world of Something Strange. Included are six complete pre-generated characters with artwork and backgrounds. Also included are Library Research Rules that are compatible with any Genesys setting.

The Something Strange setting book is not required to make use of this adventure.

Genesys Core Rulebook and either Genesys Dice or the Genesys Dice App are required to use this product.

The Library Research section mentions that no Knowledge skill should be used for research as most settings do not have a generic knowledge skill.

Does this still apply for situations where the relevant skill is obvious (such as the Knowledge (Lore) skill being the obvious choice for researching Mahact strategies in Embers of the Imperium), or where a skill has been assigned as the "generic" book-learning skill (such as the Knowledge (Science) skill in Shadow of the Beanstalk)?

In that case you could use the skill instead of the Intellect characteristic and have it upgraded by the quality of the library. Alternatively, you could add an appropriate amount of boost based on the character's skill, but still use Intellect and upgrade according to the library.

Thank you very much for clarifying.

So the intention of this design reducing is to limit dice upgrades strictly to library benefits, am I understanding that correctly?

Yes. The idea is that the character is researching something that wouldn't be covered by a Knowledge check or something far more complex than a single factoid.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
