WFRP: Death on the Reik The Enemy Within Director’s Cut, Volume 2

Welcome to Death on the Reik, part two of the revised and updated Director’s Cut of the Enemy Within, one of the most highly regarded roleplaying campaigns ever written! Created by legendary WFRP writer, Graeme Davis, one of the original writers of the campaign, the Director’s Cut provides additional material to create an enhanced experience that maintains all the mood and paranoia of the original. Death on the Reik carries on from where Enemy in Shadows left off, taking your unlikely heroes on a grand adventure up and down the remarkable Reik, the largest river in the Old World and trade route to the heart of the Empire.

Death in the Reik includes a selection of ‘Grognard Boxes’ that add entirely new ways to play through the adventures, ensuring even those who have played the Enemy Within campaign before will find Death on the Reik new and exciting.

The Enemy Within is the campaign all roleplaying game enthusiasts should play at least once in their lives, making Death on the Reik an essential purchase for all gamers.

Is this the end of the Enemy Within campaign or are there additional volumes somewhere? Not the companion volumes, I'm asking about more core adventure books continuing the storyline.

there's a free page or two for converting stat blocks between editions, but beyond that you might have to convert it yourself. the mechanical changes aren't massive, really - certainly more in magic between 1 and 4 than between 2 and 4. maybe the most topsy-turvy difference is in shopping prices, loot value and job profits, but i don't remember whether those changed much between 1 and 2.

Apparently it's gone for layout but I don't know what that means in terms of time from there to being released as a PDF. There was about a five week gap from Enemy in Shadows to its Companion, so hopefully we'll see it next month at the latest. It's Cubicle 7 though, so emphasis on 'hope'

I think that everyone is going WAY overboard with this "misleading advertising" stuff. People are allowed to make mistakes, it was relatively minor and they fixed it in the best way possible. I mean, they could either change the description or rewrite/reformat the whole book; and even if they originally said in the old press release that this would include the "River of Life" section, they are allowed to change it before releasing it. Just covering several points. Again, people are going WAY overboard.

I asked and was told by DriveThru that this is for WFRP 1e, but I can't see that stated clearly anywhere.

This is for WFRP fourth edition. You can find a PDF scan of the first edition version of Death on the Reik here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/229191/Warhammer-Fantasy-Roleplay-First-Edition--Death-on-the-Reik-The-Enemy-Within-Part-2

I would suggest people reach out to Cubicle 7 instead of leaving comments here if you feel you should have a refund. Discussions don't tend to be support lines to a company. There's only an off chance someone is reading this and is able to you help you. They might just give you a free copy of the other book due to the mistake.

I agree that giving a free copy, or at least of the River Life section, to those who purchased prior to the correction of description would be a way to correct mistake.

And hey, as a sample, probably gets me to buy the full Companion.

It's more than 'a chance'. Based on their prior history, C7 reads every comment here and responds rather quickly when they desire to do so. In this regard they are stellar compared to some publishers here who either never respond or wait up to 2 years before checking the reviews or discussion.

Why are some people so difficult? There are 160 pages of adventure for $20.00. Someone clearly made a mistake in the product description that was quickly corrected. That's not deception or false advertising.

Because I bought the book with the intention of using the missing section for my current sessions. I'm not running death on the reik yet and at the current pace of my games it will be awhile. I didn't get what i paid for. That's not being difficult, that's being misled.

IMO the problem is that Cubicle 7 never announced the change to the plans. River Life of the Empire was intended to be part of this book and Carrion up the Reik was intended to be part of the Companion. They switched the two around. I think it is a more logical division of content, but they never told anyone, so people wanting the River Life of the Empire content purchased the main book when they should have purchased the Companion. Surely the solution to this is just refunding this for the Companion and splitting the difference?

As an aside, I'm not sure how they expected RLotE to fit into this. In the original, it made up about 20 pages of the 120 page book, that's with fewer illustrations and smaller print.

I was responding to Josh O's comments that it was "deceptive" and "false advertising." Also, he's claiming they "cut half of the book out," but, according to you, the original was 20 pages out of 120 pages. That's a lot of hysterical hand wringing.

Yes, suggesting half the book is cut is a bit hyperbolic.

There is just as much content, it's just that it's been moved about between this and the companion. As I said before, Carrion up the Reik should be part of the main book as it's a scenario that bridges this and Power Behind the Throne, whereas River Life of the Empire is supplemental. It doesn't mean that Cubicle 7 should not have been more on the ball about informing people of this though.

I've preordered the full Collector's Edition, so I'm not that fussed about what appears where, but I do feel that Robert C has a point if he's only trying to purchase the stuff that he wants/needs right now.

Cut half of the book out.

"River Life of the Empire" is completely missing even though it was advertised as being in the book.

Pretty disappointing and deceptive to be honest.

I love Cubicle 7's work on Warhammer Fantasy so far, but this is false advertising.

I'm disappointed in this. The description clearly says that the section on "River life of the empire" is included, but it's not. It's in another unreleased book I'll have to buy. Will they be a credit towards the price of the second book? Very misleading...

The descriptive text above is misleading. It states this includes the complete guide to Life on the River.

It does not and instead states that will be in the Death on the Reik Companion, that has be be purchased separately.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
