THE KICKSTARTER SUCCESS IS NOW AVAILABLE!

THE DEFINITIVE 5E RESOURCE FOR MODERN & SCIENCE FICTION RULES!

NOW, DOUBLE THE SIZE AND IN FULL-COLOR!

The original Ultramodern5 was the most successful non-fantasy ruleset for 5th Edition. This revised sourcebook doubles the content of the original, with revised rules and brand-new mechanics to customize any game.

Ultramodern5 presents races, classes, archetypes, gear, monsters, and scenarios that can be inserted into any campaign. This includes…

Cyberpunk

Espionage

Modern Warfare

Mecha

Space Opera

Steampunk

Techno-fantasy

Wild West

Create a pure science fiction setting or insert any combination of rules into your own fantasy world.

The only limit is your imagination.

THIS SOURCEBOOK INCLUDES

  • 10 new races, including aliens, robots, and mutants.
  • A new lifepath system incorporating backgrounds into an adjustable character history.
  • A revised “ladder” system, offering more customization with character creation.
  • 12 new classes, including infiltrator, medic, and sniper.
  • 26 archetypes.
  • Over 130 different firearms from pistols to plasma artillery.
  • Sci-fi inspired melee weapons.
  • New armor (over 40 new options), including exoskeletons and mechs
  • Rules for portable force fields to mimic popular video games.
  • New gear, including cybernetics (30+), vehicles (35+), and aircraft (14).
  • A complete universal giant robot/mecha construction system (25 pages).
  • A techno-magic spell system with enchanted technology, a new class, and a revised spell list.
  • Over 70 monsters, including aliens, robots, and customizable adversaries.
  • New treasure tables, including loot & shoot rules.
  • Six location maps with action scenes to include in any adventure.
  • A spacecraft combat system.
  • A customizable sci-fi dungeon map system with 30 different rooms.
  • Two new adventures—the cyberpunk/superhero Necropolis and the space horror Threshold
  • AND MUCH, MUCH MORE

Designer Note: This 2nd Edition of Ultramodern5 includes revised rules from the original and adds races, one new ladder, two new classes, many more weapons and armors, revised vehicles, new monsters, and an entirely new set of rules for spellcasting (techno-magic) and mecha construction. Additionally, the two original adventures (Invasion Proxy and Biohazard) have been replaced with two new adventures, Necropolis and Threshold. The original maps have returned along with a brand new set of sci-fi themed dungeon tiles. The page count includes these maps—the content of the game puts the page count at just under 400 pages. The purchase also includes a zipped file of all the maps in high resolution.

ALL RULES ARE FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH BASE 5TH EDITION

Insert any rules from Ultramodern5 into any existing game of any genre, including fantasy!

The gunslingers converging fire ability gives a +1 bonus to attack rolls against targets within 5ft. The 5e rules give disadvantage for ranged attacks in this range. unless i am missing something, he has nothing to negate the disadvantage. So he makes his attack with a +1 and disadvantage. Is this the correct intent?

If you look under the equipment section One handed small arms have the following property: You do not have disadvantage on attack rolls if you are within 5 feet of a hostile creature who can see you and who isn’t incapacitated.

So With that being said you would not have disadvantage one 1 handed small arms but would have disadvantage with 2 handed small arms. Just thing of the 2 handed small arms as having a rifle and someone right next to you trying to push it out of the way easier then a pistol. hope tha thelps.

Another question. For feats are the only feats available for the game just in the book on new feats section or are there more? or do we use feats from the 5th edition phb?
Customer avatar

PUBLISHER
Players are not only invited but expected to pull feats from core 5E books; that's why we only offered a handful.

Hello, Mr. Diaz. Before I commit myself to purchase this book I have to know if there are any rules for character aging, and if there are any complete rules for martial arts, like martial arts styles, chi/ki powers, etc.
Customer avatar
Chris D February 18, 2020 1:26 am UTC
PUBLISHER
We did not include any rules for aging, though now I regret not making any. However, we DO have rules for a martial artist class with archetypes focusing on wrestling and the various hand-to-hand combat variations found across the world. We don't handle chi because the traditional monk covers that pretty well.

Will there eventually be a POD option?
Customer avatar
Chris D February 16, 2020 3:49 am UTC
PUBLISHER
Eventually, yes, but we've decided to hold back until Kickstarter books have reached distribution before activating that option here. Thankfully, we have always in the past send out coupons for people to upgrade their digital order with a physical one, meaning that if you pick up the digital now, you are not paying extra if you want the physical later.

I can the races of other D&D 5e books, or they need some adjustment?
Customer avatar
Chris D February 15, 2020 5:16 pm UTC
PUBLISHER
Ultramodern5 is fully compatible with fantasy races and classes from other 5E publications, including official ones.

I haven't had a chance to give the book a thorough read (that'll take time as my eyes don't like computer screens very much - looking forward to the physical copy) but I have to say on initial glance the use of color makes this edition of UM5 much easier to read that the B&W edition. The artwork is beautiful and the layout looks very nice -- organized, again makes good use of colour. The different setting concpets detailed in the front of the book are great ideas given just enough meat to give a GM more than just a paragraph or two to work off (Terminals sounds familiar ;-) ). All in all, at first look a very big improvement off of the original UM5 - great work as always Mr. Dias and team!

May just have to use this to run CoD zeta.

OK, so far I'm impressed with this title which was purchased by our group first and foremost for the Mecha Rules. It hits all the Genre highlights and works well enough to give us great expectations for play.

We got some play testing ahead of us but Mecha construction is a game in and of itself, so I'd like to point out a few minor issues I had and state some thoughts on just that section. I'll break it into two parts: Apparent Errors and My thoughts (my reaction to what was given us).

Apparent Errors:

1. The Option table (page 195) lists Damage Control, but it is not described it in that rule section. What does it do?

2. The Emergency Kit is listed in the rule text as an Option, but does not appear in the Option Table (page 195)

3. There doesn't seem to be a method to create a Mecha version of the Flamethrower, i.e. No range Cone Area of Effect that doesn't do piercing damage. I went with cost modifier of 2 points less than Area Effect Version,...See more

Is there another place like a forum or discord server where people can ask questions besides here? I have many to ask. Some about power level and some seem over powered and just want to get some feedback thats all.

Love what I have read so far but unable to read much. It takes my iPad Pro about 30 seconds to finish rendering each page, which is the lowest-performing of any PDF I've ever used. I see that you're working on a smaller PDF which should fix this but wanted to note this particular issue just in case as I bet it makes it unreadable to more than just me. I'll comment again when the new version comes out and I'll most likely review it, too. Thanks for writing this!

Ah man, just picked up started going through the original and now I find this! Super excited to see this :) I was wondering though, how much has the original classes/stuff changed compared to this one?

Edit: Oh and now I see a thing with Apex, is that a completely separate thing or is it incorporated? Thanks! :)

There are dozens of minor tweaks. Face, Heavy and grounder were boosted. Martial Artist was brought down. And there is a new class.

I have a Question regarding procedural Memory. When you use it do you use the new roll with advantage with 2 d20 and the last sentence kinda confused me "If you already have advantage, you still only get to re-roll one die result." When you re roll do you use both die or only re roll one of the 2 d20?
Customer avatar
Chris D February 14, 2020 4:21 am UTC

It means that if you cannot use Procedural Memory if you already have advantage effectively.

Okay, I had a look at the book and noticed two errors linked to Tech Level.
The Biosuit and FAST armors don't have their TL listed on the table and there's no TL listed for Land Vehicles despite them being listed for Air Vehicles.

Also noticed Flying Supercar has the same issue with TL listing.

Not sure if the - instead of a 1 for the Electric Torch's TL was intentional...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
