The City of Karan guards the western frontier of the Land of the Young:

Beyond the fortress that is Karan's West Gate lie the Borderlands and beyond them the untamed Wild Lands that stretch for hundreds of miles to the west coast on the Twilight Sea, half a world away.  Inside the gate is a multi-levelled city with a proud history.

Situated in a strategically significant mountain pass, Karan was once the capital of a large empire.  Since it was conquered by the Barons and the Turncoat Vassals fighting for the Land of the Young, however, this ancient city has very much played second fiddle to the might of Dunromin, far to the east.

Karan remains a complex and culturally sophisticated place, with a well-organised military and civil service, guilds and many reputable inns.  It even has streets beneath the surface as the ancient tin-mines upon which the city was founded now form part of the living space for the peoples that live here.

This is the second edition of SM03 The City of Karan.  It is a city-guide supplement including maps of the city and the extent of the caves below ground.  There are now even more details of the Temples, Guilds, Military, Civil Service and Inns of the city, as well as a Game Master's section detailing dozens of NPCs and other secrets of the city.

You can run this resource in your own setting or use it as a gateway and taster for the wider game-world setting of Barnaynia - the banana-shaped world!

Dunromin University Press offers a complete Table-Top RPG setting in the form of Dunromin; the most amazing city in the Land of the Young, probably the world.  This highly detailed and quality set of game resources is both thought provoking and entertaining.  It is detailed yet flexible, complex yet easy to use.  The ideal game-world for any sort of player and Game Master.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
