Be a hero. You pick the hours.

#iHunt is a story telling game about killing monsters in the gig economy. In it, you play millennials scraping by paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet. A gig app called #iHunt offers them more money than they've ever made to hit the streets and kill vampires, werewolves, demons, and anything else that goes bump in the night.

  • #iHunt uses a modified version of the Fate Core Rulebook. You do not need it to play.
  • It's a high-drama, story-heavy urban fantasy roleplaying game.
  • It takes a critical look at the gig economy with irreverent humor.
  • Make your own hunters and monsters using easy collaborative tools.
  • It uses one normal six-sided die, and four Fate Dice.
Zine Supplements: We're expanding on the world of #iHunt through a series of "zine supplements" or as we call them, "zupplements." We're releasing at least one of these short books per month. You can download them here:

About Pricing: Within the coming months, this book will exist in print-on-demand format. If you purchase a digital version, once the print version goes live I will give you a $25 off coupon code to help defray some of that cost. This book is priced as it is for a few big reasons. I'm a fan of transparency, so here are the big ones:

  • I need to be able to justify my time and work.
  • Independent RPGs are criminally underpriced, and the industry isn't going to change itself.
  • There are other games comparable by page count and price ratio. It's not my goal to undercut.
  • If you cannot afford to buy the game at full price, I am committed to giving away free or deeply reduced copies. Pricing my game as it is allows me to do so. So far, I've given away over 100 free or reduced copies.
  • I want to be able to participate in site-wide sales without reducing the price to a negligible amount.

About Our Agenda: #iHunt is a game by and for the LGBTQ+ community. This is a game by and for poor people. This is a game for all the people society leaves behind and lets fall through the cracks. We wrote this game to see ourselves kicking butt in a world when the game industry at large is still hostile to diversity despite all claims to the contrary. This isn’t a game with some milquetoast sidebar about how “you’re allowed to play gender nonbinary characters.” This is a game about marginalized people. Are you allowed to play it if you’re not from a marginalized group? Of course. But understand that this is a game written with our concerns unapologetically first and foremost, front and center.

I wish I had a better answer! Right now I'm working on the notes for the print version, and exploring some options. Once things stop being so weird with Covid-19, I'm going to start proofing the print version. Then it just depends if that takes one pass, two, or more to get to the quality level I need.

Also glad you're so interested!

I'm fine with buying the PDF version and then waiting for the POD version with the coupon...BUT any idea when it'll be available for POD? I know with all that's going on now, that might make answering this more difficult. I just thought I'd check! The whole concept of the book looks fantastic...I want to add this to my collection :-D.

Hi. I'll be honest, I'm an abroad student with no salary but the money given from my parents for studying and living. So, I can't afford this title, even if it seems a really awesome game, as for the many reviews below and on many websites here in Italy. Please let me know how it works for discounted copies. I know there are way worst reasons for couldn't be able to afford a game, so I fully understand if this opportunity isn't available for me. Anyway, great work with that, I'll follow how it develops!

After some time on the fence, I bought this some weeks ago and then get on to read it. It is amazing! A great version of fate and a great take on capitalism/gig economy. I do not understand at all the negativity some of the comments show.

Well, I really do not understand why. The "No fascists rule" seems very reasonable to me. Thanks for the reply and for the game, will soon take a look at Zine supplements.

TL;DR: the complainers jumped to incorrect conclusions based on the first section, and went off half-cocked in comments section.

In a bit more detail: phrases like "no fascists" have the potential to be what academics call coded language.

Basically, they are simple, superficially unobjectionable principles that can be easily interpreted to be discriminatory towards groups that the rule enforcers don't like. A common example is a lot of businesses have a line in their dress code that says something reasonable (if vague) such as: 'all haircuts must be neat and professional.' A decent rule if applied with fair intentions, but it often is used to harass and exclude black folks (especially black women), by claiming that their naturally kinked hair is inherently messy and unprofessional.

The combination of the book's openly-stated social-progressive/anti-capitalist slant and the authors' abrasive tone can cause people who only get as far as the 'no fascists' rule to conclude...See more

Preview of this is excellent and I have wishlisted it for sure. Want to emphasize that I think the plan for smaller zine style supplements is great as well. FATE is my home/fav system looks very cool. Wife just got laid off so the anti-capitalism vibe is certainly hitting home. Definitely will purchase as soon as my wife finds a new job and we're financially secure again.

Not sure yet! It'll be a couple of months at least. Mid-March, I'll probably be ordering the print proof. If that goes well, it could just be a few weeks from then. If not, I'll have to make fixes and order another. So it depends on how the proofing process goes.

This looks awesome, and I'll be buying it as soon as I am able. It speaks to me, at least from what I read in the preview, both me and my significant other. The way it speaks of poverty, and the lack of decent safety nets really strikes home with me right now. My SO and myself moved in with my mother to take care of her, as she's been diagnosed with cancer, COPD, emphysema, and a stress fracture that required immediate surgery. The cancer's been dealt with, but due to the rest she's going to need life-long care... unfortunately, we're now eight months in and still waiting for her disability as they haven't granted it to her yet. Many nights, we're hungry. Bills are piling up, credit debt is mounting. It's getting pretty bad, with no end in sight. I myself have meniere's disease disease, so I am not eligible to work, and my SO has multiple health problems as well... so the theme of hunting monsters to pay the bills is pretty fucking relevant right now. We're both hardcore tabletop players, usually just the two...See more

Read the preview, liked it enough to buy the game, and then read it cover to cover. I love it. It hits close to home in a wonderfully cathartic way, and I'm looking forward to trying it out. I did run into two minor issues though:

1. I might be missing something, but I don't quite get how the essence costs for magical gifts work. Rather than the always/success/failure essence costs of other gifts, all of the magical gifts list a number as their essence cost, and I don't see where that's explained. Is that meant to be a number of shifts down on the essence chart? Also, since Evileenas and other non-monster characters don't have essence features, does that mean they always activate magical gifts by taking stress or consequences?

2. The page references in chapter 15 are all >>PAGE XX placeholders.

1) Thank you. It IS supposed to be based on shifts on the essence chart. I'll clarify it in the next version of the PDF.

2) Yep. For some reason my Control + F didn't catch that. They'll be fixed in the errata pass.

Thank you SO MUCH.

I'm going to pick this up soon, and I hope it get's a traditional print from doing very well (better paper materials.)

But I need everything hardcopy so if it only gets print on demand then that's fine too.

Almost certain it'll just be POD. If we perform extremely well in the next few months, I might be able to do a traditional print run. But the way things are going, I expect POD is probably the only viable option.

I published on DTRPG once upon a time years ago and now forevermore I cannot leave official reviews. So here's my review: Five out of five stars. Maybe make it six.

1. In general, well-written. The rules were explained well, and this was my first real attempt at working my way through a Fate RPG. The atmosphere and style were on-point, and everything was super clear without me feeling like I was being talked down to. I can't say much here, other than good job!

2. Most contemporary/futuristic RPGs I've looked at the last couple decades fail to account for cell phones, much less smart phones. The authors include the information age in the structure of the game, in ways that are useful and smart.

3. I've been broke as, and housing insecure, and the authors' approach to this is nuanced, empathetic, and just the tiniest bit uncomfortable. Well done!

4. Cyberpunk2020 had these little sidebars on how to survive when someone's hunting you, like how to trap your home,...See more

I never heard of this game (or the series of books) until just a few days ago. I downloaded the sample. I loved it. I'm reading the first novel. I'm loving it.

What's truly great about it is that it's about a lot more than just killing monsters. I find it odd that some of the criticism about this game is that it's too 'political' is laughable. It's about a world a lot of people live in. The gig economy is dystopian, but it is the world we live in. And when you point that out, that is somehow political.

I've just downloaded the game and can't wait for it to be available in print.

Great storytelling and I'm looking forward to trying it out at the table.

Bought it. Amazing stuff. I have a lot more to say about the book and the discussion but thank you for making a game for those of us who don't feel like the system is for us. These are type of kids I work with and some of them will love it. But people shouldn't judge or assume, sorry if I caused anything, I didn't know people would be clutching their pearls. Thank you again for writing this. Great stuff.

People always clutch pearls. Like Bette Davis said, "If everyone likes you, you're not doing it right."

I'm glad it's resonating with people. Thank you so much for your comment! I hope you get the chance to enjoy it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
