One Page Apocalypse: Volume 1: Christmas Fallout

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Welcome to One Page Apocalypse, a simple and easy role-playing-game for the solo player. You only need some printer paper, dice, and a pencil to play, making it perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. The game works with a procedurally generated game map, adding some randomness to the game.

This first volume marks the opening to Season 1 of the game--set in chilling nuclear winter where radiation turns any dead bodies into zombies. This season builds on the absolute basics of the One Page System (used in One Page Dungeon and One Page Cthulhu) and updates it for a modern horror setting.

Each volume will build upon the last, offering new snowy and frozen buildings and locations to explore in each entry--along with new horrors, mutations, and class options as well. Each entry stands alone, so no need to worry about playing them in order!

So, get ready to survive the apocalypse!

Am I missing something? The game seems to be heavily weighted on the side of quickly killing your character, which is sort of understandable in an zombie apocalypse game if it were meant as a one off play-thru, but not in a solo campaign.

On my first play, I encountered four 6-health Ragers as soon as I stepped out of my Bartender's apartment. Armed with only a baseball bat and a fur cap (all she could afford), she didn't stand a chance. She had a difficult time trying to break away, but did so after taking a good amount of damage, only to stumble upon a group of Coughers guarding the elevator shaft.

This bring me to another question. If I sneak away from an zombie encounter at the elevator shaft, do I have to backtrack, or can I move forward? If I can move forward, doesn't that break the elevator shafts threat?

Similarly, if I encountered the Manager's Office in a room with a Hole in the Floor and I fail the obstacle, do I fall to the floor below and then have to backtrack...See more

Another question regarding Rooms with Obstacles. The rules state "AFTER encountering the zombies or obstacle, you will also encounter the room’s
features, if any." Does that mean I don't have to CLEAR the obstacle to encounter the feature.

For instance, I enter a room with the Quarantine Block and the Janitor's Closet. I fail to convince the official to let me pass and get beaten, will the official still let me loot the closet?

Does failing an objective just mean that I have to backtrack, or retry until I succeed or die?

Great game. I need just a little clarity on how to handle Sneaking away when room has multiple zombies. Is it one roll against the combined zombie levels all at once, or is it multiple rolls, one for each zombie in the room?

You make a single roll vs only one zombie. Whichever zombie has the highest level is your target number.

The preview seems like it's the complete thing, and I was wondering if some instructions are included, because while I can read the basic dice etc I can't quite grasp how it's meant to be played.

Hi Stefan. The preview isn't the entire book. The book is 45 pages in total and covers every aspect of gameplay from generating the map, moving, combat, and even building a survivor's compound. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
