Paleomythic: A Roleplaying Game of Stone and Sorcery

Paleomythic: A Roleplaying Game of Stone and Sorcery

Watermarked PDF

Paleomythic is a roleplaying game of grim survival and mythical adventures in the land of Ancient Mu, a harsh prehistoric world full of mysterious ruins and temples to explore, huge and terrible creatures that roam and spread fear across the land, and nefarious mystics and sorcerers who plot dark schemes from the shadows. It is a world of biting cold winters, of people hunting and foraging to survive, and tribes that wage relentless war.

Taking on the roles of hunters, healers, warriors, soothsayers, and more, players will navigate a world of hostile tribes, otherworldly spirits, prehistoric beasts, and monstrous creatures lurking in the dark places of the world. Players have huge scope in sculpting the game experience that best suits them, whether it's a gritty survival story without a trace of the mystical or a tale of grand adventure and exploration in a mythic setting.

This looks like a very interesting And fresh story setting. However I can buy a hard cover for $31. I have noticed that some PDFs are becoming more and more expensive because the community is supporting the high prices. Regardless of what the industry may want us to believe it is impossible for the cost of a PDF to be this close to a physical book. No shipping no printing no warehousing. Just to mention a few aspects.
The industry has to pass on the savings if they want to get my few gaming dollars I have to spend. And this looks like a really cool book. I’ll buy the hardcover. You can get a Kindle version for $13 by the way. No offense - no aggression meant. The prices are just getting a little too high and I won’t support it. I can’t afford to.

I have to agree with this completely. I just saw the hardcover available for $35, and the other Britain RPG for $28. Why would I ever bother purchasing the PDF, if I can get the print copy for such a close price. Honestly I'd rather there be a combination price, or something to that sort. Otherwise I'd never bother getting this PDF in comparison.

Is this published under an open gaming license and does Osprey plan to publish support material such as adventures?

Hi Michael - this isn't published under an Open Gaming License. We are looking at the possibility of publishing support material for Paleomythic, and anything planned will be announced through our blog and social media channels, and uploaded to here!

Sounds great! I've purchased the PDF and the rules look like they would be fun to run. There's a lot of cool material in there. I would love to see another adventure exploring the mythic and sorcery aspects of the game!

Glad to hear I bought the print book and was hoping for supplements! An expanded bestiary, locations that could be plugged in where the gm sees fit and adventures would be welcome.

It's a D6 dice pool system

Hi, Robert. The rules are simple yet fully detailed. The fundamental mechanic is a test using a number of six sided dice. Players roll dice equal to the number of traits possessed by their character (traits are adjectives such as agile, brave, strong, wilful and so on). If a character has a trait applicable to the action, they get a bonus die. If any of the rolled dice show a 6, the character succeeds. Use of the correct tool adds another die to the pool, but note that tools may also break when used.

Activities such as hunting, foraging, crafting and so on are further detailed, but still use the basic test mechanics described above. Combat is resolved in a similar manner, with a wound temporarily negating a trait. Weapons (which include such items as flint knives, skull topped cudgels, obsidian tipped spears and spine whips) have effects which occur on a result of a 6, and can mean you ruin a foes’ armour, cause a more severe wound and so on.

Characters are also defined by talents,...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
