The APERTURE Guide November 2019

Watermarked PDF

The APERTURE Guide is a monthly anthology gaming series that leverages our D20-based Aperture System to take players on a vast array of adventures in different genres and settings, with four original Scenarios in each issue. For the price of a cup of coffee, you and your friends will be provided 12 to 15 hours of gaming in each release.

Each issue – now and forever – will include Quickstart Rules to ensure that there is no bad time to try the series out. In addition, most issues will have an installment of The GUIDES Guide, an overview of Tips & Tricks to support those running the Aperture System.

In addition, we offer the series in a Subscription at a discount.

Aventures in Rodentia is our first Premium Scenario.

Players take on the role of anthropomorphic adventurers attempting to pass through a deadly maze that has kept their kind entrapped for centuries.

The Great Envoy is a competitive Scenario set in the days of Genghis Khan.

The Great Khan is seeking a new envoy for a complex and vital task. Players must compete with one another for the chance to serve at the Khan's side and change the course of history.

B-Boying is a breakdancing RPG for the truly adventurous.

Players are members of a crew competing in a TV breakdancing show. Define your crew's distinctive style and attitude, and then use the most robust rebuild of the Aperture System yet to build your dance routines and battle it out!

Fighter Merchant Scholar Thief is Aperture's take on Story Gaming, in which one's goals for a roll are perhaps more important than the Skill used.

While on a world tour, fighting bandits and... well... mostly fighting bandits, your party received word that one of you has been betrothed to bring a centures-old family feud to an end. But the path to arranged marital bliss may be a bumpy one.

The Aperture System is a custom resolution system for roleplaying titles that leverages one die and one die alone: The iconic D20. Though fashioned as a ‘generic’ system for use in any type of game, genre, or setting, Aperture was designed to be opinionated: It wants you to do awesome things in a ridiculous number of ways, as opposed to merely deciding ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Its mechanics are intended to encourage creative thought, storytelling within a roll (not simply outside), and common sense collaboration across your party.

Though designed as a Skills-based system first and foremost, it provides straightforward guidelines for how to reproduce classes, playbooks, or other such templates within the system’s operations with ease. In addition, it’s flexible enough to tailor Skills to your group’s preferences. Light or heavy, you can set it just right.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
