Dark Alleys & Twisted Paths (13th Age Compatible) is a massive expansion book for all classes of the Core Book and 13 True Ways. You get a ton of new goodies, new races, new talents, new spells, new powers, new feats for every PC you can imagine, on over 240 pages.

My first 13th Age expansion book, Dark Pacts & Ancient Secrets, was all about expanding wide with new classes, but with this book I'm going back to the original 15 classes from Barbarian to Wizard to give you many new ways to create unique and interesting characters.

Here is a glimpse of what you can expect from the book in detail ...

Novice tier rules (see free teaser) to start characters at level zero, for an origin story or a DCC-style character funnel.

13 new races: Elemental Souls of Earth, Air, Water and Fire who are infused with the power of the dying elemental lords; big dumb muscle Half-Ogres; feline and proud Leomar; wild Nyama shapeshifters; full-blooded Orcs; tricksy Pixies; stinky Ratkin; mysterious Shadowborn; gifted Star Children and battle-hardened Vorhai

5 pages of new feats

... and by class ...

New Barbarian talents that power up their rage, or support new combat styles such as wrestling, two weapon fighting and shields.

Bards gain a new type of magic item, magical instruments, and battlecries that mess with enemies as well as support allies.

Chaos Mages can keep making a mockery of the icons with many new iconic spells, including using the Elf Queen's power to turn your enemies in to princesses.

Clerics gain a lot more diversity with 35 (!) new domains, and over 100 spells that are tied to individual domains. Finally a cleric of chaos, evil and darkness feels different from a servant of the light.

Druids got nothing short of a full makeover, with new circles that replace the old talent structure. With the new Circle of Blight, you can dive into the nature's destructive side of death and decay. Or if you'd rather play up their light side, try the Circe of the Feysong.

Fighters gain new champion level talents to take with their 6th level slot. Ever wanted to ignore initiative order and take your actions whenever you want in a round?

Monks finally get a Drunken Fist form. And one to transform into a dragon. Many of the new forms use an improved structure, where the opening attack grants a bonus for one cycle of attacks (opening, flow, finisher).

Necromancers were already awesome, but gain a big rattling pile of new talents, spells and summonable creatures, including playtest fan favorite, the exploding zombombie.

The Occultist, and there only will be one ever, can now learn alternatives to Karmic Rebuke, including a melee option.

As a Paladin, smite your enemies in many new exciting ways, like the Crusader's Fist.

Rangers can now fuel magic into their shots with the new Arcane Archer talent.

Rogues can delve into the mystical side of the class with new shadow-fueled powers.

Sorcerers get their heritages upgraded to full bloodlines that customize their class features, such as the way they Gather Power, and even their familiars! The new metamagic system allows sorcerers to add a little extra oomph to their spells.

Wizards go back to their roots, with the option to specialize in one of 7 schools of magic. It could be 8, if only someone would defeat the Lich King and end his monopoly on necromancy.

Hardcover print is available now. A new print proof for the softcover is ordered - if that one is OK I'll make it available too. Praying to the gods of shipping.

Yes! We just had some issues with the first test print that we’re working out. Hardcover and softcover print will go live as soon as I have a flawless copy in hand.

If I find any errors, how do you want me to report them? I found one and it's easy to figure out what you meant, but it is still an error.

"Mixed Race PCs
...
You get both classes’ racial powers, but you can only use one each battle. For example, a half-human half-dark elf could use their Quick to Fight to roll initiative twice, or they could roll for initiative normally and then use Cruel once that battle..."

It should read "...both races' racial powers..."

Absolutely! There were just some issues with the printed proofs that I need to resolve first (drivethru staff has been quite helpful)
Hopefully soon!

IMPORTANT:
While the second printed proof for the softcover turned out better, there's still an issue. There's about 2mm of white space at the bottom, as the content is pushed too far to the top, where the default bleed doesn't make up for it. I'll try to resolve the issue with drivethru and the printer, but it might be delayed because of New Year's vacation. If you can wait to order, I'd give it until January, then hopefully I can get a copy that's perfect.

For the hardcover, I'm still waiting for the printed proof. Fingers crossed on that one.

I don't want anyone to have a bad experience so I'm holding off on print for now until I've got things worked out with the printer.

The PDF version is perfectly fine though, and ready to order.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
