The Drifter is a solitaire, story, dice game based in the fictional wild west.

The drifter is reminiscent of games like Barbarian Prince (1980), where every game is a unique story experience every time you play.

You are a gunslinger who has been living a hazy existence.  Your brief time in this world has been mostly spent on the outside of the law, killing, stealing, carousing with undesirables,  living a dangerous life full of excess and violence. Recently, you feel life might have more to offer. You know this way of life will not last and now are looking to maybe put your wild ways away, buy a ranch and settle into obscurity.  You determined you need $300 and are willing to get it by any means you feel necessary.

Will you fall victim to the endless dangers that lurk in the wild west or will you enjoy your remaining days in a serene retirement, tending to your ranch?
Find out, as The Drifter.

Hi CNL W,

If you used the Event Book (200 pages, double-sided) on an electronic device, it would only be 12 pages (2-page Tracking Sheet, 8-page Rulebook, Table Sheet, Combat Sheet). As for the printing options, I know printing in Black and White also is fine. :)

Any further questions, just let me know.

Take care, CNL W.

Hi, is there a list of how much printing this involves please? Would be interesting to know whethertonplay this requires printing only a few sheets and using the rest as electronic reference marker owls, and whether there are hi/low ink options. Thank you!

Hi Matt,

Yes it is possible for your Hunch to go down or up during the game, but that is a very rare occurrence. You are right in that the game is Generally harder if you have a lower Hunch.
Bounty Suit will also fluctuate during the game but most likely it will only go up. :)

Glad you are enjoying the game and are keeping sane! ;)
Stay safe.

Hi Ken, matt from sunny uk here. Loving the game...keeping me sane at the moment! Quick question...can hunch change during a game? 2 games at 1 hunch is tricky! The rules imply that it does. Cheers .

Hello Matt,

I apologize as I haven't been keeping records of the changes. I have been so limited on time that whenever I have a few moments, it is spent only on the edits.
That being said, this update is considerable as I have added another thousand words.

Thank you, Matt!

- Table D1 - Loot table: I assume the numbers with an asterisk (ie *) is money like the rest of the table? They don't have a $ symbol.
- R102 starts with sentence "When in a hex that has a point of interest, you may perform a Point of Interest Action." I assume it is a Point of Interest Event (ie Event iso Action)?

Hi Wouter,

You are correct, the numbers with the asterisk are money. I will get that corrected.
Yes, a point of interest action always leads to a point of interest Event.

Any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Just to understand... suppose as my action, I move to an adjacent hex. Do I do (1) the point of interest event or (2) do I roll on the event table and on my next turn I do a Point of Interest action that leads to the event?

You roll on the Event Table, because you need to complete the Travel action before you can take the Point of Interest Action. :)

Thanks!

Having a blast with this today. (getit?)

One quick question:
Does initiative remain throughout an entire combat or should I be re-rolling for each new round?

Also, I am using a printed version I made and see that the game has been updated today. Is there anywhere for me to be able to track the exact changes so that I can make notations in my copy?

thanks for a great game!

Hi Aaron,

The initiative remains throughout the entire combat.

Today's update was only for the Table sheet. There were two Events under Bounty Suit diamonds that had lower case e instead of capital E. So nothing that impacts gameplay.

As for changes, It has mostly been flavor text for a few Events in the Event Book. The only major change would be for Event E159 and E005. E159 was changed to a d10 roll instead of a D6 and the flavor text was corrected for better continuity. E005 was also changed from a D6 to a D10 with corrections to flavor text, to also correct continuity.

I will be sure to keep better track of the changes as I go from here and notify everybody via email of further changes, which I see to be very few from here on in. :)

Glad you are enjoying the game, Aaron! Any further questions in the future, do not hesitate to ask. :)
Thanks again!
Ken

Any chance of a print version? There seems to be some demand for that:

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
