100 Legendary Weapons

ADD TO WISHLIST >

History and legend are filled with stories of great blades. Often a magical weapon may have as vivid a past as the warrior who wields it. Many magical weapons are crafted by those proficient in the mystic arts, but not always. Epic battles, godly blessings, great tragedies and even spiritual possession may grant a weapon its powers.

This book provides famous named weapons along with story seeds and legends surrounding them. When player characters find or purchase a magic weapon, GameMasters may simply plug in the appropriate name and story, instantly adding a dose of wonder and legend to the item. Most weapons listed below contain names and story seeds, so GameMasters or players may pursue these ideas if they wish. The weapon types and names of locations may also be modified to better fit a campaign.

Here are some sample results:

  • Five Deaths: These five polearms were crafted from the bones of Sinnoch, the lich-giant of the Whisper Moors. After Sinnoch’s destruction at the hands of an adventuring party, the remaining arm and rib bones were crafted into great polearms, and are now wielded by the Paladins of Nermath. According to legend, the spirit of Sinnoch lives on in the bones and seeks to reassemble his body.
  • Flame: Forged by the great dwarven smith Dragak, this blade was enchanted by famed dwarven priestess Kuthelka the Strong and found its way into the hands of several dwarven kings before it was lost for several centuries.
  • Flameguard: The crafting of this mace is a mystery, for it was found in a meteor that crashed into the ground 1,000 years ago. It was claimed and wielded by the giant queen Clortha before she fell in battle. Legend states that the weapon gives off a thunderous roar when it strikes an enemy.
  • Flenaris: This exquisite blade has seen many wars but is most famous for killing the great warlord Kron, an act which ultimately freed his people from years of oppression. It was later enchanted when a bolt of lightning from the heavens struck it, turning it black, but imbuing it with great power.
  • Fleshstriker: The head of his great flail is made from the skull of Urgror, the defeated chieftain of the Bloodtooth tribe. This flail was crafted as a trophy after the new chieftain beheaded him. It is believed that Urgror’s spirit lives on in his skull and seeks to possess and reanimate a worthy victim, so that he may take back his tribe.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
