Vengeance of the Shunned Peril Primer

Over the course of the Vengeance of the Shunned campaign art, adventurers meet many residents of Scarn, encounter many creatures that creep and crawl across the face (and under it) of Ghelspad, and are set upon by numerous foes set on halting their progress.  The Peril Primer gathers all of these creatures and nonplayer characters into one tome!

The Peril Primer includes

  • 54 creatures, new or converted from the original 3.5E sourcebooks
  • A new creature template, the banewarped
  • A virus left behind by an ancient civilization, the slarecians
  • 29 nonplayer characters and character types
  • And the statistics for the main villain of the series, Maghiel, as she appears in various adventures throughout the arc!

These baddies (and some good-guys, too!) are ready to be dropped into your Vengeance of the Shunned campaign, your Scarred Lands adventure, or whatever setting you need some menacing monsters for!

Publisher Note:  You may notice that stats in the Peril Primer don't always line up with what currently appears in the Vengeance of the Shunned campaign arc.  The Primer is the most up to date source, will errata that has not appeared in those modules quite yet.  If ever in question, use the Primer...or whichever you wish, it's your game!

For some reason, I cannot review this title, so I will put my review here:

I would consider this product indispensable for anyone who is running the Vengeance of the Shunned campaign. Am running the campaign for my family group, and this product makes prep and games MUCH easier. Often the art in this book is better than the art in the adventures as well. Going through the only bit of art that I didn’t like was the beetle on page 25 of the .pdf. A lot of the art that I didn’t enjoy in the books for the monsters has been improved or replaced for this product.

So, what didn’t I like? Well if you are not running the Vengeance of the Shunned campaign then this product likely has very little value for you. Unfortunately, it is one of those niche products that ONLY really works for this particular campaign. With that said the Vengeance of the Shunned campaign is SOOOoo good that everyone playing 5e should give it a playthrough.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
