"Stop writing adventures and use these"

—Geek & Sundry

POD edition cover

This book brings together the award-winning Trilemma Adventures: 48 one- and two-page adventure locations for fantasy role-playing games. 2020 ENnie Award winner for Best Adventure (silver) and Best Cartography (gold)!

Each location is written to be usable separately, perfect for one-shot sessions, side quests, or to help populate your home grown campaign setting.

All have been lavishly illustrated and laid out to make them easy to run, straight from the book.

This book is packed with caverns, castles, underworld cities, labyrinths, mansions, flying tombs, hidden temples, and fallen shrines.

Also inside is more than 60 pages of new material:

  • an illustrated bestiary
  • an appendix of magical items
  • ten solid pages of hooks, rumors and secret lore
  • six regional gazetteers tying the adventure locations into a ready-to-use campaign setting
  • a full-color regional map, in GM and player versions
  • a complete index
  • a bonus location, set in the aftermath of the Kickstarter invasion scenario

This compendium is an essential part of your GM kit!

Hi there. How difficult is it to stat the enemies/monsters/antagonists in this book if you don't have the associated Trilemma Bestiary?

Hi there, John! It depends entirely on the system. I tend to play systems where the stat blocks are pretty simple and easy enough to do on the fly, but for something like 5e where the stat blocks are pretty extensive, I think the bestiary would be quite helpful.

why isn't there a year zero bundle?

Casper, no single compelling reason, just a myriad of small ones. Bundles take a while to set up, their sales numbers aren't compelling, POD printing costs have risen so the bundle discount comes out of a smaller margin, the Servants of Memory Kickstarter campaign and the much smaller third-party product set for Forbidden Lands means that awareness of the compendium/bestiary as a pair is reasonably high already. etc.

So both Trilemma Bestiary and Adventures are also for Forbidden Lands right?

Almost - the Trilemma Compendium only comes in one edition, and that's systemless. Servants of Memory is a bestiary for the Year Zero Engine that you can use with Forbidden Lands, and it has stats for most of the creatures in the compendium.

Anychance of there being a cheaper black and white POD being released?

Unfortunately, DriveThruRPG doesn't have a black and white option in these dimensions.

Are the maps on page 177 and 178 available in a format suitable for printing large maps? They are great, but too small to use. I'd love to be able to give my players a nice sized copy of the map on 177.

That's an interesting idea, they could be a DTRPG poster. But no, I haven't made them into separate products/downloadables at higher resolution, no.

Is this book still landscape like the original? The pictures make it look portrait and warped.

Is it possible to get the maps seperately and without descriptions to show them to my players?

This really is a nice set of adventures, although they look a lot like Shattered Pike Studio's 'One Page Dungeon' compendiums, only costing 4x as much for a third the content (10th edition comparison). I do like the extended format of descriptions, but this would have really benefited by providing normal 2D overhead style maps with grids (along with the 3D styles), to make it much easier for the GM to accurately run.

Whats is the difference between the POD version here and the deluxe version sold on your website?

Scott, the content is the same in both books. The POD version has a glossy cover and a perfect-bound spine, while the limited edition has a linen cover, bookmark ribbon, and a lie-flat sewn spine. Also, the maps are printed on the inside cover endpapers instead of on regular pages at the back of the book. Other than those construction differences, same book exactly!

I like the idea but the dungeon maps are designed to be more artistic than useful, classic 2D dungeon maps would have been much more useful than that 3D mess.

Joel, I'd say it's 99% fantasy with the barest whiff of science fantasy.

Todd, the PoD version will be a premium color hardcover, so the print quality will be as good as DriveThruRPG can make it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
