100 Prisoners to Find in a Fantasy Dungeon

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Characters may spend more than a little time in dungeons, and dungeons often have prisoners in them, whether they be previous adventurers who failed in their mission or inhabitants who have transgressed against their fellows in some way.  This supplement has 100 different prisoners that characters could encounter within a dungeon's cells. Some of these prisoners may have useful skills; others may have rewards or bounties. Some are not what they seem. The prisoners can be used as adventure hooks or problems that need dealing with. These are not the sort of prisoners who would typically be found in a local jail, instead being those more likely to be discovered within the bowels of the earth.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Qoran: This primitive-looking male human is decorated with a number of tattoos and has a mouth full of sharpened teeth, creating a disturbing effect when he smiles. Although Qoran’s tribe are cannibals, he crossed a line when he started kidnapping, and eating, the babies of other members of the tribe. He has therefore been imprisoned to be later killed. Given Qoran’s behaviour, he is considered to be tainted, and will therefore not be eaten in the fear that doing so would simply pass his taint on to others.
  • Quolis Polatis: This female human in her 20s is a low-level thief who was paid by a party planning to raid the dungeon to scout it out beforehand, making note of such as traps, lairs, potential treasures and other important locations. During her explorations, she accidentally stumbled across a patrol and was captured. Quolis has no idea what is planned for her, but is sure it isn’t good. Most of her maps and notes were taken, but she did manage to keep some of them hidden in her clothes and can remember some details of the rest. Quolis is not willing to fight, as she knows she simply isn’t qualified for combat, but she will provide any rescuers with as much information as she has or can remember, free of charge, before heading to the surface. The exit route is something she can definitely recall.
  • Raf Porkan: This male human remembers very little other than his name. He doesn’t know how he got to where he is or what he was doing beforehand. The only thing he knows for certain is that he will be sold into slavery as a simple labourer. Raf lost his memory as those who took him were a little over-enthusiastic, and a scar on the back of his head indicates a serious head wound. Raf does still possess a number of his skills. He simply doesn’t know what they are until he is in a situation where he could use them.
  • Ragnar Thorvald: This emaciated-looking human male doesn’t move if his cell is approached. It can be easily seen from outside that his eyes have been carved out; closer examination reveals that Ragnar’s tongue has been removed as well. Not only that, but his eardrums have been burst as well, rendering him blind, deaf and mute. Achieving any sort of communication with Ragnar will be difficult unless it can be done mentally, and Ragnar has been in this state for weeks and consequently has lost most of his sanity. He will need extensive help to leave the dungeon and probably expensive cures as well.
  • Ranald Norlap: This human has clearly been captive for a long time and is almost invisible under a mass of grey-streaked black hair. Both his beard and hair have grown to several feet in length and are matted and filthy, as well as being home to numerous small parasites. Ranald’s body is emaciated due to lack of food and his voice is rusty from lack of use. In his current state, Ranald is completely unable to fight and is barely able to walk.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
