This modern scenario takes place in the dreamy American town of Roselawn – but it could easily be transferred to other places or times to fit the Keepers needs.

Samuel Dawson owns Dawson's Funeral Home in Roselawn. After Sheriff Oakley finds the body of Henry Burrows in the old woods north of Roselawn and isn't able to track down any next of kin nor identify any cause of death, he transfers the body to Dawson who is commissioned with the cremation.

Trying to burn the body, Dawson finds out that Burrows can't be damaged by fire or any other means; even his scalpel leaves no mark on his skin. Dawson knew Burrows to be a reclusive man living in a small house near the edge of the forest. Intrigued by a mystery that contradicts every science-based approach he can think of, he decides to investigate the incident and goes missing.

The investigators enter the scenario after Dawson’s disappearance and will find out what secret the forest holds.

What an excellent little game. Very much enjoy the storyline plus the mapping is very nice. I will likely run this the next time I am asked to fill in a one-shot night in our gaming group instead of running my own. Good work!

A solid offering from a new author. A clean but evocative layout, with respectable art and maps. Provides enough information for the Keeper to easily adapt to changing circumstances without going overboard. The story itself is straightforward enough to be played through in a single session, but there are plenty of ways you could hook into the story to lead in new directions.

A great title. Spooky with a kind of 'It came from the desert' vibe, The village is fleshed out enough to be interesting but not enough to flood you with ephemera that you have to remember. This leaves the Keeper to improvise and have fun too. The layout is clean and crisp (and per the template set out by Chaosium), the maps are really good and give a home brew rustic vibe while still be informative and detailed. It doesn't go over the top on style but that just adds to the home brew comfortable setting. The adventure itself is relatively straight forward and can be read in a very short amount of time leaving you to put the kids to bed before your friends arrive (more of this please!). An enterprising Keeper may wish to add extra plotlines or adversaries, especially if they are hard bitten veterans but this adventure (and I use the word 'Adventure' deliberately) has something most others do not. A sense of wonder. The ritual is unique and well thought out and the conclusion satisfying. For a new author it is surprisingly...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
