Lair of Sword & Sorcery (LoSS)

High Adventure Sword and Sorcery Roleplaying Awaits!

Go back to a time when roleplaying was a do-it-yourself venture. What if you pieced together ideas from various board games, movies, toys, and cartoons? What if all of these combined elements were your concept of fantasy roleplaying? What if there were very few official materials to use, so you created mostly your own adventures, cultures, and monsters? What if a lot of the fun was creating your own game board on which to play, and then adding miniatures or toy figures? Welcome to Lair of Sword & Sorcery! Metal, Steel, Gold, and Iron meets Mystery, Doom, and High Adventure.

Will your hero master the arts of the fighter or the mysterious and deadly skills of the sorcerer? Combat is quick, fun, and full of excitement -- the rest of the game is built just the same. Lair of Sword & Sorcery is meant to played, not learned or studied. Creating your own characters takes no time. Creating new monsters and villains is also a snap. The included sample adventure puts you right into the action!

Lair of Sword & Sorcery is based on certain concepts that may be different from the more typical fantasy games:

  • Magic is rare and dangerous
  • Combat is deadly
  • Heroes are truly heroic
  • Gold is valuable; equipment and supplies are expensive
  • Iron is more rare and valuable than gold
  • The land is primarily without law, but not consequences

Brett, thank you for offering this title. The dungeon-crafting tutorials alone sparked all sorts of creative ideas which don't necessitate spending hundreds of dollars for a neat end result.

It's a personal favorite of mine. That is one of the reasons. I'm glad it did its job of sparking imagination. Thanks!

I don't understand what this game is. The description sounds like both an RPG and a tabletop miniatures skirmish game. Is it one or the other or a combination of both?

It's an RPG. Like original D&D, it is designed for use with miniatures.

There's rules for both! The main focus is the RPG, but you're also given simple skirmish rules. I'm reminded of how games like 40k have both RPG and skirmish ways to play.

Hi. There will probably be a Black & White softcover, but not through this site (and I'm not sure when), since I'm working on finishing up some other projects first. I just wanted to get the PDF available again. As normal for Precis Intermedia titles, buying the PDF here would still get you a discount on a print version.

They weren't kidding about giving a free PDF upgrade to owners of the previous edition. I sent the proof over at the Precis Intermedia site, and by the time I came back to DTRPG the download was already waiting on me. Literally the fastest customer support I have EVER received.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
