"Groovy. Best Rifts/Gamma World setting ever." ~ Bryce Lynch of Ten Foot Pole

__________

Cha'alt is the beast of a book (218 pages) I've been working on for the past year.  It's a ruined world focusing on a couple of introductory dungeons before getting to the main event - the megadungeon known as The Black Pyramid.

The Black Pyramid is like nothing you've ever seen before.  Unique design, purpose, feel, magic items, NPCs, monsters, factions, motives, agendas, strangeness, the works!

There's a decent amount of setting detail besides dungeoncrawling - space opera bar, domed city, mutants, weird ass elves, desert pirates, a city ruled by a gargantuan purple demon-worm, and much more!

Cha'alt is compatible with both old school and 5e D&D purposefully blended for maximum usability.  Full disclosure: aside from advantage/disadvantage and bounded accuracy, there isn't much in the way of 5th edition mechanics. It's predominantly OSR.

I've included my own Crimson Dragon Slayer D20 as an appendix, but you can use any of the hundred RPG systems available to run Cha'alt as your own.  The rules-language is fairly neutral, and my priority was helping the Game Master at the table.

The world is gonzo, eldritch, science-fantasy, and post-apocalyptic.  It's a wild ride, perfect for those players seeking something a little bit different, but also recognizable.

The interior is gorgeous full-color art, layout, cartography and Lovecraftian aesthetics.  Gold ENnie winner Glynn Seal of MonkeyBlood Design went above and beyond his usual fantastic job.  Give the new 32 page preview a look.  I spared no expense making Cha'alt fantastic - this world is alive and spilling over with possibilities.

Cha'alt should give you years of solid, non-standardized gaming.

Want to check out the follow-up book?  It's called Cha'alt: Fuchsia Malaise, available here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/321444/Chaalt-Fuchsia-Malaise

And now there's a third book in the trilogy - Cha'alt: Chartreuse Shadows!  The PDF is already out, and I should have the gorgeous hardcover books in my slimy tentacles by VENGER CON this July in Madison, WI.

Enjoy,

VS

p.s. Check out Venger's old school gaming blog for details on how to order your very own luxury hardcover of Cha'alt and soon Cha'alt: Fuchsia Malaise.

The people saying they " we're in the fence" we're never really. They didn't like you from the start and never had any intention of trying the game. They don't like the game, not because of the game, but because you don't share their beliefs. So they come here , whine, and post some BS hoping to make you feel bad. Ha. Like that will work. Pathetic.

VENGER CON is happing this July in Madison, WI. It's a "garage days" throw-back to the conventions of the late 70s and early 80s. VENGER CON is for old-school, OSR, and traditional RPGs. Details and tickets available here: https://tabletop.events/conventions/venger-con-2022

I splurged on a fancy, high-end print-run. That means there won't ever be a print-on-demand Cha'alt book. But if you want a gorgeous hardcover, contact me. I sell them direct. I still have dozens of Cha'alt: Fuchsia Malaise, as well. Cha'alt: Chartreuse Shadows should be in my dirty tentacles by July. Thanks!

Do me a favor and don't send me publisher e-mails telling me your baked. Thanks.

I'm with you.
I have enough choices in roleplaying aids that I don't need to deal with that.

The product looks interesting, but the publisher shows no respect for his customers. I'm out.

That was the first time anyone has ever paid attention to one of my customer emails, except to use a discount code. I'm just happy that someone responded, someone reached out into the cold, black universe of meaningless dream-drivel to notice that I, a holographic figment of some fucked-up demon-god's imagination, exist. If you can even count this as an existence, that is.

Thanks, I was undecided. This was all I needed for me to steer me clear of this product/franchise. I've had a real-world bad experience with an author/publisher that seemed to me to be too wrapped up in hir nom de plume (and/or addiction issues); I don't want any more of that kind invasive, forth wall-breaking drama.

Thanks! While some may want to go full Karen on Darrick D, I think it is funny as hell to get an email that is not the standard drivel. The "cancel-culture/I am leaving a bad review to ruin you" game (when it has nothing to do with the quality of the product) is for whiners anyway -- so I think I am going spend a little more to buy the hard cover of one of his products.

Duh! I've been under house arrest since March with my wife and 5 kids, and most schooling has been at home. However, I'm still grateful that we've been mostly healthy. And I'm not divorced yet... that's good, too.

This looks GREAT but I have to agree that the color pdf is too much to print at home and too hard for old eyes to read. Please notify me when a reduced color page version is available.

Based upon first impressions of the full-sized preview and reviews of the publisher elsewhere, it looks interesting enough and right now because of the daily-deal I'm tempted to purchase it. Really tempted.
Ultimately I have to let this one go.. unless a clean B&W printer friendly version is made available??

Coloured/textured backgrounds and fonts in my books and PDFs drive me up the wall. It's a huge turn-off. Its one reason why I have not and never will buy anything from mainstream publishers like Paizo, WotC, etc. Plus I always print out my PDFs so I won't spring for toner-hogs like this unless there is a clean b&w print version available. Colour illustration 'plates' are fine (they're gorgeous in fact) and I wouldn't want that altered. But the main body of text? uh-uh. Can't stand it. If this were a small book, I might be able to over-look it. But at 291 colour pages, that's just too much toner (and eye-strain) even at grayscale.

I only bring all this up because...See more

I bought it but I'm with you on the PDF backgrounds. I cannot stand unnecessary colored and textured backgrounds like that. It's annoying enough in a hard copy of a book, but is even worse in a pdf. The old school did it the right way in that regard. I wish publishers would have more respect for the pdf and those who primarily consume content in that format.

I hear you, Aaron! If I hadn't spent every nickle I had on a print run of 2,000 gorgeous hardcovers (that will be delivered in 2 weeks), I would have offered a black and white, printer-friendly option. Since you can deduct the cost of the PDF from the purchase price, it's an incentive to try the PDF and eventually get the print version when it's available. Hope that makes your decision easier.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
