It's winter in Bedlam.  Dirty snow lies in heaps on every street corner, toasted black with exhaust fumes.
The whole city is buried under the worst snow in years and none of the slums have gotten plowed.  They're on the brink of rioting and things are about to get worse. For a series of vicious crimes is about to shake the city to its core.  And the cover-up is going to set the frozen streets on fire.  And twelve rampaging supervillains are threatening to give Bedlam City a two-fisted Christmas (and a violent new year?)  It's up to you to stop them, and it's going to be a bad day in Bedlam if you can't.

Do you remember the Bronze Age of comics? That wonderful, horrible period between 1970 and 1978, when comics tried to get "relevant"? When racism, poverty and injustice could be solved with a bash in the chops!

In the spirit of these violently well-meaning comics from the days of yore, we bring you Bad Day in Bedlam.  This giant-sized, 212 page adventure gives us an unflinching look at racism, political corruption and their effects on ordinary people.  And it lets your players fix them with their fists!

It gives you ten scenes, thirteen dastardly supervillains, dozens of supporting npcs from every walk of life!  Eleven knock-down, drag-out superbattles, enough to slake your players' bloodthirst for months!  Plus trash-littered alleys, tormented angst, moral gray zones and at least two vigilantes who dress in black and brood in rooftops in the dark!  Are you ready to sock social injustice in the jaw?

After further testing, it looks as though the font sometimes displays weirdly when you first open the .pdf, but this problem goes away the moment you actually save the file. Which is consistent with what Jeffery K. was seeing.

If anyone experiences any other strange issues with the fonts or for that matter anything else, let us know and we'll get right on it.

I'm happy with the way it looks since I saved it. I just hope that my initial post (before I found the fix) didn't lose you any sales.

This is getting baffling. We've uploaded a revised version that no longer displays the fonts weirdly (on the one laptop that doesn't show them correctly.

But when we download this new file from the server, the problem reappears. Until the very moment that we save the file, after which everything looks normal again.

What kind of experiences is everyone else having with the fonts? Do they look all right on your devices?

Good grief! Thanks for letting us know about this!

The .pdf looks normal on all of our computers except for one laptop, where it misbehaves exactly the way Jeffery K. describes. We've tried various fixes and it looks like we might have one that works. We're about to upload the (hopefully) corrected version and then download and test it on the laptop to see if the problem is really fixed.

Further announcements to follow.

The font is really messed up and hard to read (tiny and light-colored—not at all like what the font in the Preview looks like—and it changes to a normal font in random places for part of a sentence before reverting back to the hard-to-read font), but I found a fix for the problem, so don’t let that discourage anyone from purchasing this.

I opened the file in Adobe Reader. When I opened the file, there was a message across the top of the window that says, “This file claims compliance with the PDF/A standard and has been opened read-only to prevent modification.” To the right of this message is a button labeled “Enable Editing”.

Click on the “Enable Editing” button. It should give the following warning: “Editing a PDF will cause the PDF to no longer comply with PDF/A. Are you sure you wish to continue? NOTE: If PDF/A compliance is required when the editing is complete, be sure to use File ->Save As Other->PDF/A.”

Go ahead and click OK, and then...See more

I love most of your material, but the font makes this very hard to read. Please fix this.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
