BattleTech: Alpha Strike: Commander's Edition

Watermarked PDF

In the BattleTech universe there remains one constant: the drums of war. And where there is war, valiant military commanders from the Great Houses, the Clans, and other interstellar nations lead the charge of hulking BattleMechs, brave infantry, and daring aerofighters to certain victory or crushing defeat on the sprawling battlefields of distant worlds. Rally your troops onward into the fray, and surge forth to triumph over the enemy.

Alpha Strike: Commander’s Edition collects into one handy volume the revised fast-play rules from the original Alpha Strike and the expanded rules from Alpha Strike Companion. Take command of large-scale engagements with tabletop-miniatures gameplay designed for the modern wargamer. Use the force-creation rules to marshal your armies, charge them into battle, and either reap the rewards of conquest or taste the bitter pill of defeat. The future of the Inner Sphere is in your hands!

Like Trevor E, I'm curious if this is the 3rd or the 2nd printing?

Hi, does this version require the companion manual?

Depends. Do you NEED the Alpha Strike Companion manual with this book? No. You can definitely play unlimited variations of BTech to your heart's delight without it. HOWEVER... there is material ONLY found in the Alpha Strike Companion. For example Alpha Strike and Alpha Strike: Commander's Edition do not have the expanded rules for using the Void Signature System (MAS and STL).

So if you HAVE to know the rules for every exotic thing in BTech, then yeah... you'll want to grab the Alpha Strike Companion for every possible contingency. But I think people are perfectly fine without it. Only one person in my entire gaming club even uses a 'Mech with Void Signature System, and he only does it once every blue moon. 99.9% of your gaming pals should be fine with just Alpha Strike: Commander's Edition.

The errata page from CGL says “There have been three printing of Alpha Strike: Commander's Edition to date: 2019, 2020, and 2021. All errata here is for the first printing (2019) of Alpha Strike: Commander's Edition. All items marked with a ② were corrected in the second printing, and all items marked with ③ were corrected in the third printing.

The Full-size preview here says “corrected second printing”, is the preview old and this is really the corrected third printing? Thank you for any help, I just don’t want to buy a brand new pdf that’s already outdated and needs 10 pages of errata if it’s the second printing.

Is the file printer-friendly? Or will it chew through my toner? Also, is this the new one?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
