Adolescent Supernatural Mischief In The 1980s!

Using TinyD6 from Gallant Knight Games!

Stranger Stuff is a rules-light tabletop roleplaying game of 1980’s inspired adventure, horror, and science fiction, where you play as “Kids” in their teens. But it’s not just homework and asking someone to the dance that are the terrors they need to face. Clearly influenced by the hit Netflix series, but also the great films that inspired that show, Stranger Stuff takes the original card-based vs. Stranger Stuff game released by Fat Goblin Games and adapts it to be played using TinyD6, a dice-based rules light tabletop roleplaying game, so that you can play both existing adventures with quick adaptation but also prepare the Kids for totally different dangers still to come.

The book also includes an adaptation of the adventure from the vs. Stranger Stuff — Season 2 revised core rulebook that was written by Kiel Howell — The Mask Behind the Makeup — that can be used as either a starting place for brand-new Kids to start their adventures, or as a chance for veterans of the vs. M Engine version of the game to learn the TinyD6 rules with their Kids for a brand new round of mystery, terror, and excitement!

Stranger Stuff is a complete roleplaying game using TinyD6 in a slimmed-down and quick to use format. Even novice gamers will have no problem creating interesting characters, learning the rules, and starting a game. All you need is paper, pencils, three six-sided dice, and a few friends.

The bestiary provides different monster types (alien, cryptid, human, supernatural) and provides standard examples of each. It also provides rules and info for creating your own monsters. Hope that helps!

For anyone who is looking at Stranger Stuff more for the fluff than the crunch, take note that this version does *not* come w/ the Crestview Hills setting.

From pg 56 (the Worldbuilding section):
"For anyone familiar with our vs. Stranger Stuff game written for
the vs. M Engine, the town Crestview Hills is a recurring default
setting for all of our adventures related to vs. Stranger Stuff. For this
iteration of the game, we decided not to reprint all of the details of
Crestview Hill"

Is this something my six year old could play?

Sorry I missed this. Yes, a six-year-old could play this, although some of the themes might be too scary, the rules are fairly simple.

What is the difference between "Stranger Stuff" and "vs. Stranger Stuff - Season 2"? Does Season 2 add to the original? Are they adaptations of the same thing for different systems? Or something else? Can someone clarify?

Different systems. Stranger Stuff TinyD6 uses the TinyD6 Engine from Gallant Knight Games. vs. Stranger Stuff - Season 2 uses the vs. M Engine (a playing card-based system)

Hey, you should get DTRPG to tag this as a TinyD6 product, so it will show up on rules system searches.

Thanks, I updated it. Some of these releases took place before the option was available.

The sickly drawback says “You start every session with two fewer Toughness than your maximum, and your maximum Toughness is two less than your Archetype would normally start with. You may not take the Healthy Trait.” The middle schooler starts with 4 toughness. Does that mean a middle schooler with the sickly trait would have 2 toughness maximum and would start a session with 2 less than maximum, thus starting session at 0 toughness, being effectively on deaths door?????

Hey William,

You're welcome to ask rules questions like this here -- but we also recommend that if you're on Facebook, you can hit us up on the Fat Goblin Games Facebook page here: & then for TinyD6 stuff especially, we highly recommend being part of the Gallant Knight Games Official Fan Fb here: You can post there or even tag me directly and I'll pop in to answer the question (this space works too but is delayed as I don't the notifications).

As to answering the actual question -- Yes, but no. Yes, you start the day at 0 Toughness in this case. You're not exactly at Death's Door though. If you look on page 21 about Death -- you're by the rules as written unconscious without aid etc. There are however, two easy ways to get back some (at least 1) Toughness. The first is have someone make a Healing Save and you'd regain 1 Toughness. Alternately -- you keep sleeping for 1 or 2 hours every day......See more

I've been trying to find a good "stranger things" game with a system I like, and lo' here it is. Is there any plans for a POD version? Because I would very much like this on my shelf! (Or any kind of reimbursement for those who buy the pdf before the POD comes out? Like a reduced cost voucher?)

Files have been submitted for a print version, so yes. And I will send out a discount code to those who have already grabbed the pdf. Happy that you are enjoying it.

Can you show more please? Game play example maybe. Is this like the Tiny Dungeons rules? Thanks
Customer avatar
Rick H July 04, 2019 1:45 am UTC
It is based on the same TinyD6 system used for Tiny Dungeons 2E, Beach Patrol, etc.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
