The 4th Corporate War’s over and the big dogs have retreated to their corners to lick their wounds. That leaves everyone else to fend for themselves in a shattered world.

And that’s just fine. ‘cause you’ve got interface plugs in your wrists, metal in your limbs, and chips in your skull. You’re wired in, loaded with chrome, and ready to take it to the Edge.

There’s a world full of opportunities out there. Maybe this time you can do more than save yourself. Maybe.

The Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart Kit is the perfect introduction to the newest edition of the classic Cyberpunk tabletop roleplaying game and includes:

  • Two booklets, one containing world lore and adventures and the other the essential rules needed to play.
  • Six pregenerated characters.
  • Maps and standees to help bring the world of Cyberpunk to life!

I liked the 90s Comic Book style more. This looks like any other video game concept art.

It's certainly a step up from the green-hued photos of action man figurines from Cyberpunk V3.

Great update. Much more user-friendly combat. Still think Armor vs. Damage needs to tip more in favor of damage.

Only negative (weird system) i could spot: Body-Type Brawling damage is "off" or needs to scale / add to melee weapon damage. It seems weid to me that a big dude will deal the same damage as a Desert Eagle .50 as long as he strikes someone without armor. but if he strikes someone with a leather suit he will deal 0 dam.
Maybe i am missing something (in the rules), if so please enlighten me.

I think I will house rule as follows: Brawling can deal a maximum of 1 damage to an armored target. If your Brawling damage is better than a melee weapon damage, you may use the better of the 2 values when making melee attacks.

Agreed. But I think I'll cannibalize the "Damage Types" and "Body Type Modifier" rules of "The Witcher: Easy Mode" (page 17) plus a base damage of 1d6 for punches and 2d6 for kicks.
I wonder why RTG didn't use them in the first place, since both the Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart and The Witcher: Easy Mode use a refined version of the good ole "Fuzion" rules system.

Thanks for the heads up, W:em (dam modifier) is more akin to cp2020 back in the day.

In CPR Brawling seem to be something that is elaborated in the main book, in order to be viable, the damage might translate to a DV or something like that. For now i think i will stick with allowing the better of the two values be used.

Im guessing a large sword such as a Katana will be 3d6 and a "powersword/mono katana" etc. will be 4d6.

Fx. Using a knife will never be viable as it is now, since all characters are using armor. But it will be in the hands of a large person if you are allowed to use brwling damage in place of weapon damage.

IMHO CPRJ misses a necessary differentiaton between non-lethal and lethal damage. Shure, you can literally beat someone to death in reality, but with bare fists it will take much more than just a few hits, even with BODY 10 aka "A. Schwarzenegger".

CPR weapon damage seems to be a very simplified version of 2020's weapon damage. "Heavy Pistol" damage f. e. is 3d6 in CPR, which is similar to 2020's "Heavy Handgun" "BudgetArms Auto 3" (11 mm), but weapons which's damage code would include a "pip" (+1, +2 etc.), like the "Dai Lung Magnum", damage 3d6+1, have been left out, apparently for simplification reasons. What I also miss is the "Weapon Accuracy" (WA) which was part of the Interlock/Fuzion rules from Mekton II (1987) on.

Knife damage is very low compared to the real-life statement that a knife wound is about 3 times more deadly than a gunshot wound. But it's just the same symptom that RPG's treat some weapons "stepmotherly",...See more

Agreed. Kevlar is (as i understand it) exceedingly good against bullet type damage, in that it forces the projectile to "squash" while goind through the kevlar layers instead of when it goes through human flesh. so anything that pierces without "squashing" will basically defeat kevlar pretty easy; such as bows, crossbows, and most piercing melee weapons.
This corresponds nicely with the rule that melee weapons all treat AR = ½. they just need a bit more damage or to use the Brawl scaling in order to be really viable.

Is there a solo in the pregens, and do they dominate combat? I seem to recall solos being combat monsters in the original game.
Customer avatar

Yes. the Solo is one of the pregens. the one they have made has the biggest armor and weapons in the JS kit, but so does the Nomad.

They do not detail Special abilities (except for Netrunner) in the JS kit.

What you're buying here is a series of PDFs. There is a physical edition but it sold out at GenCon. As soon as there's more it will be available for purchase via retailers.

The Jumpstart mentions Deltajocks. Shockwave and Firestorm mentioned Subjocks, Panzerjocks, Aerojocks, etc. What roles will these be specialization of?

From what I know about the setting I'm going to guess that Deltajocks are aerospace pilots, Subjocks are submarine pilots, Pazerjocks are tank/powered armor pilots, and Aerojocks are conventional aircraft/aerodyne pilots.

Should have wrote "Panzerboys", but yes. In general, these are all variants of Solo and Nomad. Cyberpunk tends to put smugglers and transporters into the Nomad Role and the more aggressive Aerojock, Subjock, and PAJock into the Solo Role. Vehicle Operators usually have some variant of the Special Ability of Vehicle Zen and Smugglers either have that or a variant of the Nomad Family/Brotherhood Special Ability. How these Special Abilities will appear in Cyberpunk Red is going to be important, considering how Interface changed for the Netrunner. Boy, do I really need the Core book soon!

Can we get any ballpark estimate of when the core rules will be available? My players are veterans of CP2020 and we need rules for chargen and upgrade of our old characters at the very least. I think the Jumpstart Kit is beautiful and useful to acquaint us with the upgraded rules, but we want more- real soon,

They've shortened the skill list and simplified the combat system a bit, from what I can see from a glance through. It's very recognisable though - almost backwards compatible if anything.

Here are the biggest differences from what I can tell so far:

Net running is a lot quicker and faster as it now takes place in real time and you can't hack something from miles away

There's a far more generous health system that is equal to 5 times your body stat, though Body no longer subtracts damage taken
You only start bleeding to death when you lose all your hitpoints
You heal a lot faster since you now heal a fifth of your maximum health every day

You now only lose humanity when receiving cybernetics that improve your abilities or unnecessarily remove limbs. So replacing already lost limbs, changing your gender, and cosmetic augmentations like skin color change or tech hair no longer remove your humanity.

You don't seem to have to pay a ridiculous amount of stuff like health insurance or cellphone bills though they might be saving that for later

They removed a lot of the more situational skills like accounting and combined multiple...See more

The fight against the corporations and their dominance over the lives of the rats in the streets is the basis of cyberpunk. You claim you've taken that out...that leaves it as just a crime/gang warfare game with cyberware. It's not Cyberpunk.

Where do you get that from? As far as I have read the Jumpstart the Corporations are not the god like entities they once where but they are still there ruining lives. The "Man" is still there, its just that the world has gone to XXX all around you due to the war. I would call the setting Post Apocalyptic Cyberpunk.

Something that I am not clear with from the ruleset is whether a player can split their move action into pieces in order to act between the two. Anyone know if there is an answer?
Customer avatar

You mean "Move" x meters/yards, perform "Basic Action" and then again "Move" y meters/yards?
I'd say that depends on how the referee would see that (aka "House Rule"). But in the original rules you have not that option.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
