The 4th Corporate War’s over and the big dogs have retreated to their corners to lick their wounds. That leaves everyone else to fend for themselves in a shattered world.

And that’s just fine. ‘cause you’ve got interface plugs in your wrists, metal in your limbs, and chips in your skull. You’re wired in, loaded with chrome, and ready to take it to the Edge.

There’s a world full of opportunities out there. Maybe this time you can do more than save yourself. Maybe.

The Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart Kit is the perfect introduction to the newest edition of the classic Cyberpunk tabletop roleplaying game and includes:

  • Two booklets, one containing world lore and adventures and the other the essential rules needed to play.
  • Six pregenerated characters.
  • Maps and standees to help bring the world of Cyberpunk to life!

There's just one question - When will the full system be out? Will it be released at the same time as Cyberpunk 2077?

We haven't announced a release date for the core rulebook. There's still a bit of coordination and work to be done.

Pre ordering two of these Box set next week.
Will you be doing a Bits & Mortar with the boxset?
Or is this something you' would consider?
Be great to have it in physical form anyway.
Looking forward to it.

Arguably the RPG of the year, or at least the RPG Return of the Year. When is the physical box coming? When is the hardback coming for that matter?

Physical box should be in stores next month. Core rulebook is still being finalized so no release window on it yet.

Is this the physical edition or does one not exist yet? I'm fine with it not being a physical version, but I just prefer actual books over files. If there isn't one, when will the physical version be released?

I can't find anything about a cover system in the rule book, while it is mentioned a couple of times. Are there rules for a cover system, or will we have to wait for the 'real' books for those rules?

(also: is there a forum/site for players to discuss the system? I've not been succesful in finding one)

There are no specific rules for cover, though we'd suggest considering shooting someone who is in partial cover akin to a head shot. Shooting through cover, assign the cover an SP. The cover effectively adds armor to the person hiding behind it.

Waiting for a physical edition, but this looks incredibly promising. May even wait for the core rule book in physical form. That said, I have a few suggestions:

Edition:

· Please keep rule book and world book separate, just like in the jumpstart kit. We all love huge RPG books, but they’re just not practical to use.
· Stop the wafer thin / wavy / glossy magazine page nonsense of the Witcher rule book, get 100 gsm and up like in the golden days.
· The layout design of the jumpstart kit is great, because it’s readable. Please keep it like that.

Rules:

· Please keep it simple, make it simpler. It’s the only way I can make the game and especially combat more narrative focused instead of rule/roll focused. The Jumpstart kit seems to be a great start.
· In that vein, don’t make us roll a shitload of dice. This is not Shadowrun, and I’m so thankful for that.
· I’ve seen some criticism of the damage values that some simple...See more

Question: Can one start a review, then add to it as time progresses? For instance, the first thing I looked at from the material were the maps. I was Suitably impressed with the maps and look forward to using them in my next cyberpunk based game in the near future. If R.Talsorian were to concentrate upon creating maps for use with their Cyberpunk games, I think they'd have a nice supporting product that would be useful not only for their Cyberpunk Red, but any other of the Cyberpunk 2020 games. All I could say when I saw this was "Hot Dang!" (got to keep this family friendly folks!). For the record? I use GURPS as my go to game system. I tend to steal ideas from other game systems for use with my games. But perhaps I might give this version of Cyberpunk a try...

As far as we're aware, you can't. You might want to write your review in a word processor as you go, the upload it all at once?

Thanks for the love of the maps! We'll consider more in the future!

Thanks for the kind words regarding the maps! The four that came with the kit were made by me. I am at the ready to make more maps, and happily await the call from RTG! I do plan on making more dystopian futuristic maps on my own as well so keep an eye out. -Matt Francella

Great update. Much more user-friendly combat. Still think Armor vs. Damage needs to tip more in favor of damage.

Only negative (weird system) i could spot: Body-Type Brawling damage is "off" or needs to scale / add to melee weapon damage. It seems weid to me that a big dude will deal the same damage as a Desert Eagle .50 as long as he strikes someone without armor. but if he strikes someone with a leather suit he will deal 0 dam.
Maybe i am missing something (in the rules), if so please enlighten me.

I think I will house rule as follows: Brawling can deal a maximum of 1 damage to an armored target. If your Brawling damage is better than a melee weapon damage, you may use the better of the 2 values when making melee attacks.

Agreed. But I think I'll cannibalize the "Damage Types" and "Body Type Modifier" rules of "The Witcher: Easy Mode" (page 17) plus a base damage of 1d6 for punches and 2d6 for kicks.
I wonder why RTG didn't use them in the first place, since both the Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart and The Witcher: Easy Mode use a refined version of the good ole "Fuzion" rules system.

Thanks for the heads up, W:em (dam modifier) is more akin to cp2020 back in the day.

In CPR Brawling seem to be something that is elaborated in the main book, in order to be viable, the damage might translate to a DV or something like that. For now i think i will stick with allowing the better of the two values be used.

Im guessing a large sword such as a Katana will be 3d6 and a "powersword/mono katana" etc. will be 4d6.

Fx. Using a knife will never be viable as it is now, since all characters are using armor. But it will be in the hands of a large person if you are allowed to use brwling damage in place of weapon damage.

IMHO CPRJ misses a necessary differentiaton between non-lethal and lethal damage. Shure, you can literally beat someone to death in reality, but with bare fists it will take much more than just a few hits, even with BODY 10 aka "A. Schwarzenegger".

CPR weapon damage seems to be a very simplified version of 2020's weapon damage. "Heavy Pistol" damage f. e. is 3d6 in CPR, which is similar to 2020's "Heavy Handgun" "BudgetArms Auto 3" (11 mm), but weapons which's damage code would include a "pip" (+1, +2 etc.), like the "Dai Lung Magnum", damage 3d6+1, have been left out, apparently for simplification reasons. What I also miss is the "Weapon Accuracy" (WA) which was part of the Interlock/Fuzion rules from Mekton II (1987) on.

Knife damage is very low compared to the real-life statement that a knife wound is about 3 times more deadly than a gunshot wound. But it's just the same symptom that RPG's treat some weapons "stepmotherly",...See more

Agreed. Kevlar is (as i understand it) exceedingly good against bullet type damage, in that it forces the projectile to "squash" while goind through the kevlar layers instead of when it goes through human flesh. so anything that pierces without "squashing" will basically defeat kevlar pretty easy; such as bows, crossbows, and most piercing melee weapons.
This corresponds nicely with the rule that melee weapons all treat AR = ½. they just need a bit more damage or to use the Brawl scaling in order to be really viable.

Is there a solo in the pregens, and do they dominate combat? I seem to recall solos being combat monsters in the original game.

Yes. the Solo is one of the pregens. the one they have made has the biggest armor and weapons in the JS kit, but so does the Nomad.

They do not detail Special abilities (except for Netrunner) in the JS kit.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
