A new megadungeon from Three Castles Award Winner (2018) and Barrowmaze author Dr. Greg Gillespie!

Local villagers call for aid! An eerie green light appeared atop the Dwimmerhorn Mountain. The light came from HighFell - the ruins of an ancient wizard school. The infernal blaze grew until a great explosion rocked the mountain. Like a massive floating island, HighFell pulled away from the mountaintop and now slowly drfits across The Great Salt Reach. What happened to HighFell? Why does it float errily across the landscape? Are you brave (or foolish) enough to explore the ruins of HighFell: The drifting Dungeon?

The HighFell: The Drifting Dungeon is a 246-page classic old school megadungeon for use with Labyrinth LordTM and other fantasy role-playing games. The pages of HighFell are crammed full with new material, maps, amazing art (including special surprizes by former TSR artists), as well as an amazing colour cover art by Ex-TSR artist Erol Otus that matches Barrowmaze Complete and The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia as a sister-books.

HighFell: The Drifting Dungeon will keep your players on their toes and your campaign going strong for years.

HighFell is brought to you by the Old School Renaissance (so don’t forget your 10’ pole).

This project was created through a group of awesome backers from Kickstarter. Without them, this project wouldn't have happened. Thank you for your support!

Check my rggnow profile for all sorts of additional Barrowmaze material.

Note that there is no preview as the download is a folder containing the pdf as well as the HighFell hexmaps in Black and Old School Blue.

Just wondering if you were planning on doing GM screen inserts for this dungeon as well? I love the ones for the previous two.

If you like old school dungeon crawls, this is worth checking out. It is quite similar in tone and style to Gillespie's other efforts, meaning you get a ton of content, lots of maps (not always easy to follow/connect), lots of cool old school images, new monsters, assorted factions albeit not always well fleshed out, plenty of treasure (including gem sizes & quality), and a fair amount of typos. As others have noted, there are numerous references to the author's other modules, including directives to find monster stats there. A trifle annoying, but since I own those and have every intention of buying any future products he produces, it doesn't bother me much. It's true that the "ground setting" of the adventure isn't terribly well developed. But to me, that's not a problem since I'm dropping it into my home campaign setting anyhow. In fact, the drifting aspect is great because you can put it anywhere you want. It also makes this megadungeon a bit more modular than the others in terms of being...See more

An excellent adventure as I would expect from Mr. Gillespie. My issue, however, is with the quality of the book. I am also a purchaser of Forbidden Caverns of Archaia, which was of excellent quality. The paper, the ink, everything was excellent. Not so with Highfells. The paper is thin, you can see images printed from the other side of the page, and the ink is lite, so its not as stark against the paper. In addition, there was some kind of gummy substance on a few places on the cover, and a bent book corner.

Highly disappointing considering the cost of the item.

Have you talked to customer support about this? I wonder if it is an isolated incident or a sign that they have indeed changed the quality of the printing. I got the older books as well and they were fine, but I am now reluctant to get this one...

Quick comment - if you contact DTRPG customer service from your publishers account, they will direct the preview to the correct file. You can (I believe) even load up a special file as the preview, for example the first ten pages or whatever.

Can we get a preview file set up? $35 is a steep price to jump in blind, especially considering that I could get Rappan Athuk with almost 600 pages for only $5 more. And as for recent releases, it`s hard to know without a preview of some kind that this thing is really 3.5 times better than Gunderholfen megadungeon at only $10??

How is the proofreading this time out?

I count three obvious typos in the italic blurb on this page alone.

I don’t want to pay $75 for the privilege of copy editing a book again, as the previous one was riddled with errors.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
