Adventures in the Hundred Kingdoms

Watermarked PDF

Adventures in the Hundred Kingdoms is a tabletop roleplaying game inspired by the folklore of the Philippine islands. Written by S. John Bateman and Illustrated by Caleb (@porkironandwine).

AitHK is a game about normal people turned into heroes that go on epic adventures inspired by the epic poems of Ibálong and Hinilawod, to fight for the things they hold dear, while overcoming great obstacles, like stopping the Tandayag Boar, or sailing across the sea to the Eastern Sky.

The game has a d6 system, and mechanics that allow the players to fight against monsters, verbally duel with the nobility, and summon diwata. All to accomplish those goals!

Characters earn experience points (XP) by physically fighting for the people and places that bond them to the physical world; whether that be their community or their lovers. They earn experience by overcoming obstacles that the GM places in front of them; like convincing the Datu to send his army against that Hantik hives. And characters can earn experience by using their character's traits to propel the narrative forward!

Included here are all the rules you need to play, layed out in an easily printable 8.5x11 pdf. AitHK includes 5 life paths, a skill and trait system, rules for play up to level 3, a system for combat, social conflict, and epic journeys across vast distances, and a section for the GM for how to run this all and pull the characters into dramatic situations!

"Adventures in the Hundred Kingdoms is a game full of flavour. The mechanics is simple, with two stats plus skills. I love how the writer creates a living, breathing setting with Filipino culture and folklore. From the Batuk'an whose tattoos tell of their combat prowess, to the currency system that uses bulawan (gold bits), pearls and gold barter rings; every detail helps paint this masterpiece of a setting." -W.H. Arthur (The Sol Surviver and Taels of the Heisty Vixens)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
