An exciting lower-level adventure for any game system!

"I’ll take that ANY day over the overwritten garbage that passes for a modern adventure. " - Review at TenFootPole (https://tenfootpole.org/ironspike/?p=5995).

The small city of Shallow Bay is plagued by a gang of smugglers who sell contraband alcohol and luxury foods to the people. The mayor’s expensive lifestyle has depleted the city coffers and the head of the city guard orders his men to investigate the smugglers and put an end to their activities. Unbeknownst to most, the smugglers are a front for a radical chaotic water cult that wishes to sweep earth free of “the wicked”. The money made with the contraband is intended to buy better equipment and hire powerful allies for an expedition to the lost Temple of the Chaos Elemental. By awakening this ancient evil the cult can take the first steps towards their ultimate goal of destruction and mayhem.

Features:

  • 6 full color maps of all the major sites in the adventure. (And even more maps here)
  • The write-up is suitable for any "F20" and OSR game - simply map the monster names to your monster manual! More detailed advice is given for 5th and 13th edition games in the appendix.
  • A flamboyant enemy that does not simply wait for the players to act but follows her own agenda.
  • Tips on how to run this adventure in one or in several sessions.

5e and 13th Age are not OSR games, yet this is being shown under the OSR RULE SYSTEM category.

My reasoning was that the adventure as written can be used with OSR games because there are no rules in there but many of the assumptions hold true. Basically, with your monster manual, you can play this game. I hope this has not led to a disappointment.

This is called bait and switch. The preview calls out 5e and 13th Age. If it is actually rules free then it should be under System Agnostic. You can't say something is for a game system, then claim, "but you can convert it to your game system!" The categories have no meaning then, and make shopping this site very difficult.

To my understanding there are many OSR rule systems that show some variations - the adventure takes the most common ground of all of them. There is *also* some advise on how to convert it to other systems that are not OSR but it is not written for any of those games and you need to do conversion work ot get there.

I would like to better understand what in your opinion is missing to run this adventure with an OSR system without conversions. I would be happy to get your feedback on that so I can include these features in the next update.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
