Transit: The Spaceship RPG

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

TRANSIT takes place beyond our home planet, allowing you to traverse the unlimited depths of space and explore worlds outside our own galaxy.

Your role as an Artificial Intelligence is to inhabit an interplanetary vessel, manage your resources, and direct your crew. You’ll deploy your ship’s officers into the field, hunt down criminals, engage in interstellar combat, and deliver supplies and colonists to remote settlements.

You must rely on your resources to complete missions by acting through your ship, tech, and crew. Three different AI types – Combat, Command, and Support – lend themselves to varied and interesting game play, but it’s when an AI is paired with a ship that the real diversity in character creation comes to the fore.

TRANSIT is more than just an intergalactic skirmish game. When your interests and those of your crew are aligned, things can go very well, but when you and your crew come into conflict, they turn from asset to liability. They’ll think you’re insane, but you’re just trying to survive and complete your mission. How did it come to this? What will you do next?

You’re the hero. You’re the monster. You’re the glorious leader. You’re the soulless tormentor.

Just how far will you go to complete your mission?

Don't forget to check out the beginner adventure "Dahvil Delivery".

And the supplement, "Advanced Programming", too.

So, is it that a group of players collectively play a single ship AI?
You might want to explain that in the description so people understand what the game is.

I've been fascinated by the concept of roleplaying an AI for a long time. It's something I always wanted to try and never have the chance to, so you can imagine how hyped I was about this game's whole idea: a group of Ais guiding a fleet.
And I have to say I'm not disappointed.
This game has some really great ideas in my opinion. It's also very well written – something that seems a given, but it's not often the case. The good writing comes out also in the fact that they took potentially very technical stuff (managing a fleet in the universe, upgrading ships and so on) and made it appear easy to grasp and handle in game. Ok, don't go exploring the galaxy in real life now but, after having read this book, you can confidently go exploring in game at least.
I love how the "death" of a character is handled! There is a certain risk of actually losing the PC, but if you're lucky the experience can add to your character and make them even more interesting to roleplay. This is something...See more

This book is fantastic and has caused me to bolt upright to write up a possible mission scenario more than any other game I've read. I do have a question though, particularly when it comes to the way vulnerabilities are handled for missions.

The vulnerabilities are written in such a way as to suggest they increase every time the previous vulnerability is ignored or not remedied. Very cool. My question is: do the negative effects stack with each increase? For example, would two levels of Gluttony vulnerability mean the players have both -2 requisition ongoing AND repair and recruitment become unavailable?

Thank for the kind words!

To answer your question: Yes and also maybe.
From all the devs: "This is one of those situations like LOAD where both readings are correct depending on how much weight you want this to have in your game. Because also - does remedying Greed 2 take you down to Greed 1? Or fix the entire problem?"
So, basically, you can decide how you want it to work, stacking or non-stacking, but also keep in mind what that means when they fix the problem, stacking or non-stacking. Do they have to fix a thing twice if it stacked, or is once sufficient to return things to normal even if stacked?

Have fun with the game and, if you have more questions, head over to the games website and jump in the discord for a rapid response.

Be seeing you...

"It isn’t terribly often that I run into an RPG with a distinctive theme that immediately makes me go “wow, that’s a great idea.” But I did just that with Transit." Strange Assembly reviewed the game a while back! Check the full review out here: https://www.strangeassembly.com/2019/review-transit

This game looks and sounds extremely good. Interesting concept and has a classic sci fi vibe that will appeal to fans of for instance Traveller. The book excerpt says the optimal number of participants is 3-5 persons. Are there possibilities for solo adventures is my question. In any case, unique sounding game and very interesting.

It's not directly supported. You'll need at least one MC (GM) and one player.

But, the missions can be auto-generated...

Mostly what you will miss is the way in which the game world reacts to you and the things you do as a solo player. The consequences of actions and that sort of thing. It _is_ a Powered by the Apocalypse game, after all.

But it is an interesting thought.

Hmm...

I'm going to put this on my wishlist to grab very soon. The concept is fascinating.

It reminds me of a couple of Larry Niven novels that he wrote years ago, set outside of the 'known space' milleiu (not set in the universe of 'Ringworld'): 'The Smoke Ring' and 'The Integral Trees'. A group of crew and criminal minds in cloned bodies are sent out into space in a ship governed by an AI patterned on the mind of a government agent, 'Kendy for the State'.

Basing an adventure on a modified extraction of Niven's novels would be an interesting exploration with some live players.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
