Savage Worlds is a Fast! Furious! and Fun! rules system for any genre of roleplaying game.

Create your own setting, convert an existing one, or pick up one of our amazing settings like DeadlandsRippers, or 50 Fathoms. The rules give players plenty of depth to create their characters and keep bookkeeping to a minimum for the Game Master. If you’re looking for a game that’s fast and easy to set up, run, and play, Savage Worlds is for you!

Savage Worlds handles pulp action, gritty noir, supers, hard scifi, space opera, horror, and anything you can imagine!

Savage Worlds Adventure Edition is the latest version of Savage Worlds. It does not, however, invalidate prior printings of the rules, which you can continue to enjoy.

#SWADE is used on most social media. Search for “#SWADE” and see what people are saying about our game!

NOTE: The current version is 5.7. On Feb 14th, 2021, we updated the Stunned entry on the State Summaries table on page 203. For all changes since release, please see the latest update on the PEG website.

My question is the same as Kelly W's - but for Canada. Any word on the shipments expected in March, and are any coincidently headed to Ontario?

Hi Craig (and Kelly). Looks like the shipment arrives next week! As for Canada, that depends entirely on whether or not any store or distributor up there orders it--they will be available. We ship direct, but I'm sure you know how terrible the shipping rates are from the US to Canada.

There's still some in distribution, but we got wiped out by recent events in the game industry. We reordered more right away and expect them in early March. Thanks :)

So I just bought the PDF of this system. Man, what have I been missing out on all these years? (See ya later 5e!)

One question though. I'm looking somewhere for a disclaimer that gives me permission to print this at my local Staples but I can't find something like that in the PDF, or on the forums at PEGINC. Is there a disclaimer somewhere for that?

The sticky note on the cover grants permission to print for personal use. It also reminds you that you can turn off the background layers for easier printing.

I never really understand when a publisher declines to offer a POD option because of quality issues. Isn't that something for the customer to decide? I mean, this seems to have been out of print for months in the UK - perhaps it was briefly available at some point in the last year, but not for long. Shipping from the PEG site is exorbitant - $90+. (And yes we appreciate that this is not PEG's fault, but it's a reality nevertheless for customers.) So people who want a hard copy are having to resort to self printing - which is even worse quality.

Print on demand is an ideal solution for when publishers have difficulty keeping a book in stock, particularly internationally. Thus a softcover POD option here or elsewhere would be really useful, and I expect would be very popular too. Those who really want the high-quality hardback can wait for it to reappear, or spend $$$ on it now.

There are several factors. First off, we don't make anything off POD last I checked (but happy to check again) and they cost the consumer more. Second, it angers some of our retailers. They've gotten used to PDFs, but cutting them out of the print process has gotten us some angry emails. Third, as stated previously, we can't control the quality and that might put sub-par books out there that other people may think represents all our products. Finally, we have to purchase reprints in large quantities, of course, and selling PODs undercuts what we need to sell to reprint.

There's a tipping point to all this, of course, but we haven't been able to make it work when we've looked into it in the past. We'll do so again next year and see if anything's changed.

Cheers,

Shane

Fair enough - many thanks for the response. I guess I'll hold on until it comes back into print.

FWIW, I do think the standard of POD - from this site anyway - has improved substantially over the years and is ideal for softcover 'at the table' copies of rules and supplements. One of the great things about previous editions of SW was the low entry cost for players; everyone in the group could have a copy for relatively little. I'd love to see something along those lines for SWADE, maybe a compact or digest edition, which might not cannibalise your sales of the HB too much and could also be included in settings box sets.

We'd all like to see that, but the economy has made it tough.

Buuuut.... sign up for the PEG newsletter, the FB group, or just check our site each week. You might be pleasantly surprised.

(Oh, and we're not out of stock of SWADE. Whether a distributor keeps enough on hand or not we have little control over. That's why we do 80+% of our sales on our own site or via crowdfunding.)

Can anyone tell me what size this print out please? I would be very keen if it prints at that smaller size the older versions of Savage Worlds were made available in, but understand if it has been changed to full-size (like most source books). Thanks for your time.

As-is it's 6.625 by 10.125 (graphic novel size), but if you're printing at home you can change those parameters as you see fit (print to fit, for example).

I saw that document was updated today. I was expected the 6.0 version, but it turns out the file was the 5.7 version. I'm guessing this is an error?

Nevermind, disregard! Turns out I had somehow downloaded the wrong file (the previous version). Which is strange, because that was the file that was reported to be updated. Maybe a system error. In any case, I have the 6.0 version. Thank you very much!!!

Pretty stupid not to have a POD available for an OOP book you can't find now, or they need to do another massive print run or start putting the rules in all the core book sets they release.

No need to be rude. POD doesn't give the quality we want or the price you want. We did another massive print run nearly eight months ago but you may have heard there's been a container shortage for the better part of the last year, delaying most every manufacturer's books who print overseas.

Is there a Print On Demand copy in the future? -- if not, can Shane Hensley offer a copyright approval via this thread, so that those of us who want a printed copy may do so at our own expense? -- Print On Demand coming or Copyright Authorization now: may we know what we can do to get a printed copy? Thanks and let us know. -- I will look on Am**zon or W**lmart.com for details, but it would be nice to have the option here.

We don't do POD...you can order a hardback directly from our site for the same or less cost and much higher quality.

The sticky note on the front allows you to print it for yourself...just show your copy representative. Cheers!

The print-cost may comparable; but, the Shipping to Canada is Prohibitive: $33USD (shipping) for SWADE to Canada makes the book almost DOUBLE (net $72.99USD)! I can't justify spending that. Unless something can be done about the exorbitant shipping costs, I presume POD would not matter.

If you're in the USA, that is. It is considerably more expensive when you need to have it shipped to continental europe.

I've used Savage Worlds a few years back and liked it for what it was - a miniature game with basic RPG rules for social encounters. I always felt some things were missing.
This edition addresses all my issues I had - I like the social conflict rules, the new skills, adjusted edges and removal of a lot of situational modifiers.

Also, it is nice to see the card decks are finally made available - everything is so convincing that I bought the big box with all the content available.

I'll find out soon, if I love this edition or will like it as I did the older ones. But all stars are aligning towards a new found love.

If you have a setting in mind these are the rules to play it.
"But can it do..."
"Yes. it can."
"But you didn't let me finish."
"I didn't need to. Horror, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Western, Spy, Military, Comedy, Romance, Zombies, Mysteries, Whatever it can do it."
And it will do it fast, furious, and fun, so that your story is well underway 2 hours in, and not just starting round 3 of the first encounter.

I have the previous edition and like it don't love it. Though it is my first choice when I want to throw minis down on a mat. I am very curious as to what is different in this edition.

I have heard that some of the edges are different, I sort of hope that they got rid of static bonuses, which I felt were way too common in the addition I have.

Hi Alan. If you didn't love the last edition you might not love this edition either. The changes are pervasive but mostly in the details. The core rules all remain the same. There's a comprehensive list somewhere on our website and summary threads on forums and stuff, but there are far too many changes for me to list here. All the best no matter what you decide. :)

Hi Shane, I was wondering if you plan to create an "explorer" edition of the adventure edition: something in a smaller format, easier to carry around. I've bought the Signed Leather Adventure Edition and I'm enjoying it (I'm reading it at the moment, not playing), but I believe it's not a book to carry around. I would love something like the Deluxe Explorer edition updated to the new rules.

Thanks

Personally, I'd like to say, I prefer the "Explorer" size of books. They are great to carry and I think they look better on a book shelf than the standard size. Like a Graphic Novel or something. If the economics of it doesn't work anymore, maybe it would work better without the larger books :)

Although, so many of my book purchases these days are digital, like this one right now, that maybe neither of the sizes make sense.

With a little work. Most of the changes were under the hood, so to speak: An Edge now acts differently, a rule now acts differently, but all the key interface points like character stats and so on are the same, most of the Edges have the same names, etc.

Savage Worlds Adventure Edition is a GREAT improvement above previous version. I like how it is steamlined, more precise, and has more options. I love the Support rules. I already greatly appreciate the new Social Edges, new Powers, Power Modifiers. Tricks and Tests of Wills merged into that flexible Tests that can make you Vulnerable or Distracted, the great interactions with Assassin or Counterattacks, and the fact the GM can decide a raise on those Tests doesn't Shake but do something special instead.

SWADE is very good. Take it, eat it :)

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
