Shadowrun: Better Than Bad (Deep Shadows)

Righteous Fire

Kill or be killed. Eye for an eye. Get yours while you can. Shadowrunners—and most of the other residents of the Sixth World—are told from birth that those are the principles you must follow to survive. Thinking of others is for suckers. Take care of your own and hope you don’t die early.

But some runners think that’s no way to live. They know the world is stacked against them, and they’ve decided they like those odds. They choose to fight for what they think is right. They use shadowruns to take from people who don’t deserve what they have and give to those who need it. They seek hidden information that can right wrongs. It’s not easy, and it doesn’t always pay as well as outright theft, but who do they tell stories about centuries later—Robin Hood, or the jerk thief from a few forests away who only thought of himself?

Better than Bad is a shadowrunners’ guide to hooding, the art of committing crime to help those in need. With plot information, shadowrunning techniques and tactics, and advice to help runners work to bring good into the world, the book is the first definitive guide to shadowrunning with a conscience. It also includes information on a hot spot for working to right wrongs—Pretoria, in the African nation of Azania

Better than Bad is for use with Shadowrun, Fifth Edition, and most of the material can also be used with Shadowrun: Anarchy.

Back to the Roots. Back to the original Shadowrun Punk! Very good!
Much more the game I want to play and run.
Glad I don't have to pick between getting this and getting Kill Code.
5 stars!

Old Crow and the rest, you did good!

It's comforting to see how whereas certain HBO television shows pretentiously defecate on the Heroic Fantasy Genre by turning it into a filthy cesspool of cynicism-hopelessness-betrayal-child rape-and-murder, this book in a nice ironic contrast instead tries to turn the normally dark-and-cynical Science-Fantasy genre into one of Kindness, Justice, Honor, Heroism, Idealism and Hope. :)

Saving Up To Buy It! :)

Your comment just turned into a sales pitch.

I had no idea that what my characters did was called "hooding." I just never could get into a Shadowrun game that was just all murder, all of the time. I preferred Impossible Missions, as in a cyberpunk version of the Sixties TV show. "Your mission, should you choose to accept it ..."

I liked my heroes to have dark pasts, sure; but I, as a player, balk at every black ops mission. I never stayed long with Shadowrun groups for this one reason. I never liked the company of the sort of player who was all right with the idea of killing, even in fiction.

Our SR games have almost always been mission impossible type affairs, just with cyberware, magic, and trolls :D

And when 4th and 5th edition moved more and more to how to get Rich working for the Man instead of how to stick to it the Man while running and maybe make the world a little better and sleep a little better at night...

Well this helps get you back on track if that is how you want to play the game.

Besides the spending street cred rules and the grey tech magic re-balance were really needed.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
