Mythic Game Master Emulator Deck

Play your favorite role-playing games solo, or with a group of players without a Game Master, using only your imagination and the Mythic Game Master Emulator Deck to guide you!

Based on the DriveThru Platinum Selling Mythic Game Master Emulator ruleset, this deck of 120 cards replaces the dice and the books, giving you Mythic results directly. The Mythic Deck handles everything Mythic handles, including Fate Questions, Event Focus and Meaning, Scene Setups, and adds Action and Description answers.

The Mythic Game Master Emulator Deck gives you all the tools you need to run a GM-free game either with a group or solo, by yourself. Mythic works with any role-playing system, and also as a writing tool to give your imagination a boost.

The PDF download of this product contains a complete guide in how to use the deck, as well as all the cards you can print for yourself. The print version is the 120 card deck along with a tuck box. The PDF manual is free when ordered with the cards, so be sure to check the PDF + Cards option when ordering the print deck.

Ugh, pdf print version of the cards aren't duplex printing friendly. You get one page of each of the backs, then for reference there are only two cards available duplex (2 correct front & back, 6 back only), the list has three pages of fronts, but the last one only has one front on it (would it have really hurt to make the list fronts out to 24? Sure, probably worthless...), and finally you get thirteen pages of actual Mythic fronts (14 if you count the make your own cards page). Yeah, some gaps on page 13, but that isn't such a big deal and avoids confusion with the make your own cards (which would have been the only reasonable filler for the three empty slots).
So, instead of one duplex print job, you have to do SEVENTEEN duplex prints, being very, very careful not to screw up the pages listed to print... or some other combination of printing off individual sheets of back and matching them up with the correct fronts by individual page printing.
Would it really have hurt to copy the backs...See more

When do you put the cards you've drew back into the Mythic deck? I may have missed something in the Manual.

Hi Matthew. Thanks for the question. When you draw the Shuffle Card, that indicates it's time to put the discarded cards back into the deck and reshuffle. After you draw it, you should finish whatever question or action you were completing, then reshuffle the whole deck.

I hope this helped! Happy gaming :)

Really like the idea of using a deck of cards as opposed to rolling on a chart. I'm curious, have the design-advancements introduced in Mythic Variations 2 been included in this deck version? On my initial flip-through I really liked the updates and options added into MV2.
Thanks!

Hi Aaron! Thanks for your question. It's primarily a deck version of the original Mythic Emulator rules, so it doesn't include material from Mythic Variations 2. However, it does include the Description Meaning Tables that are in Mythic Variations 2 (and Location Crafter). I wanted the deck to be as simple and pure Mythic as possible, but I felt the Description tables should be a part of that. Also, I just ran out of room on the cards :)

I'm considering doing more decks that incorporate the rules from Mythic Variations 2, with cards for the various new checks.

Hi Tana Pigeon,

I live in Sydney and would like to purchase the "Cards in TuckBox" version. Is there a way to obtain these locally? I don't want to have to have them ship from overseas if they are available from a distributor here in Australia. Thanks

Hi Gary. Thank you for your question.

Drive Thru handles the printing and processing. I don't think there is any way to have them produced locally in Australia. If this changes, or I find out otherwise, I'll post here to let you know.

Thanks for the reply Tana however with the USD to AUD exchange rate the cost comes in at $35.45 AUD. That is a very expensive set of cards. I'll have to wait for a sale ;)

Cheers!

Hi. I purchased the PDF only in order try DIY way. Unfortunately, it seems that A4 cards version has layout which is inapriopriate to do double-side print (a page side does not have compatible next side). Is it possible to prepare A4 version for double-side printing (which most probably requires duplication of some pages to fit avers and revers and some reorganization of specific page layout)?

Hi Damian. Thanks for your post. I did a test print and I see that the two sides are off a little bit. The A4 size was a new addition to the product, and it seems I didn't quite get it fully aligned. I'll get a fixed page up there soon.

Great production quality of the cards. Downside for me is that the rules pdf not allowing the ability for keyword searching.

Excited to get mine. I do wish the backing was mirrored so you didn't know when the card was reversed which begs the question: is the "yes" side always on top like in the pdf? Cause knowing when the card is going to say yes or no before flipping it would be a bit disappointing.

Hi John. The back of the cards alternate from the Yes being at the top to being at the bottom of the card. So, half of the cards Yes is at top, half it's at bottom. This is true of the PDF as well. Once you shuffle the deck, there's no way to know from looking at the card back which way the Yes is underneath.

I had a brain fart and bought the deck, but didn't buy the PDF, thinking it would come with the rules. Now I'm reading the description, and I can confirm that sure enough, it says the PDF is required, but I don't have it because I didn't buy the PDF, only the physical edition. Is there any way I can get at least the rules portion of the PDF after the fact?

Is this a standalone product or is Mythic GM Emulator required for it's use? I own all the Mythic stuff but this would seem more conducive to group play than whipping out the old books.
Customer avatar

This is a standalone product. If you own the Mythic GM Emulator book that helps a little, as it elaborates more on the whole process, but it isn't necessary. What you're asking is can you set aside the book and just use the cards, and the answer is yes. You also don't need dice for it. The cards contain everything from the Emulator book, plus a few bits from Variations I and II.

If you know the system you may not need the books. However, it is my opinion that, if you have never read the Mythic PDFs, having AT LEAST the Mythic core is needed to use the cards. The examples of play alone will help. Just my thoughts.

Hi BJ. You should have received an email from DriveThru after the purchase with download links. Also, you can check the My Library link at the top of the page and find Titles, which will show all your purchased titles and associated download links. The Mythic Deck has 3 downloadable files. Once a product is purchased, you can also go to the product page when logged in and it will say "You Have Purchased This Product" and will show right on the page links to downloadable files.

If you're having trouble with any of the above, there may be a technical glitch that requires an email to DriveThru tech support. Or, let me know and I'll see if I can work it out.

On my printer, the contrast of the action and the background is a little low, making it hard to read. Not sure if that would be easy to do, but a version with the background removed would be awesome!

Will the PDF print correctly on A4?
Customer avatar
Tana P July 16, 2019 5:30 pm UTC

Hi Joshua. The PDF pages are letter size, 8.5x11, so they will not fit on an A4 page size. If this is a problem for non-US purchasers of the deck, I can make an A4 friendly version.

A new file has been added giving an A4 download option. It should appear in the Library section of your account for downloading.

I print letter-sized PDF to A4 all the time. I just tick the box to make it fit and the pdf is scaled down slightly, you end up with a larger margin around the content.

Are the cards available in individual image files? That would make it easier to use with software that handles virtual cards.

They aren't, but that's something I could remedy. Could you direct me to a resource about that, or to a common virtual card app? I'll see what I can do about formatting something that'll work.

Thanks for the reply. I am now using the free InfraView program to view cards of various types. It can shuffle images and rotate them with the use of shortcut keys. Individual png and/or jpeg files for that program would be handy. It saves me from having to take a screenshot of all the cards. Providing the image files would also make it easier for people making cards in Tabletop Simulator (which I also own). I look forward to using the deck one way or another.

Have you considered printing the cards double sided? The deck is quite large and most of the cards could take advantage of being double sided to reduce the deck size. Could you perhaps make this an option?

Hi Nathaniel, thanks for your question :) I considered it when designing the deck, but I decided there were too many reasons not to go that route.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
