The Great Big Random d100 Table of Interesting NPC's will add some fully fleshed out encounters with the locals of any D&D5e or other high fantasy game. When your players go to any new town, a castle keep, or just come across a lone traveler on the road, you can roll on a table to get the following:

NPC Name, Race, Profession, Alignment, Description, Appearance, Personality Traits, Background, Quirks, Side Quest or Plot Hook, Carried Items, and Suggested Stats.

For more free Random d100's and other free items for your games, check out Aurican's Lair Publisher's Page.

And if you are new to tabletop gaming or just looking for a Rules Lite Tabletop Game based on some of the rules from 5e, check out GATEWAY RPG.

GATEWAY RPG Tabletop System is a Freerules-lite, easy to learnfast-paced, and universal D20 Roleplaying Game framework that is perfect for introducing new players to the hobby of tabletop RPGs. This system allows for any theme or setting, from Fantasy to Cyberpunk, from Horror to Noir, or whatever your imagination can create.

GATEWAY’S simple rules are based around similar mechanics from the 5th Edition of "The most popular roleplaying game in the world".  It is easy for new players to learn the rules, go on an adventure in a short period of time, and is the perfect "gateway" to other tabletop RPGs. The open genre even provides a great format for "One Shot" adventures with your fellow veteran players and Game Masters. Alternatively, long term on-going campaigns are possible by using Gateway's "Advanced Play Variant" or by simply incorporating (or even replacing) with other d20 systems such as D&D, Pathfinder, Star Wars D20, etc.

I didn't rate it, but I have to comment for two reasons. The first is a warning: this thing is **so damn awful** that it's actually a waste of time to download.

The second is because it's obvious a lot of work went into this, and it *could* be useful. In its current state, it is NOT. **It would take you longer to find something of use in this thing than it would to make up a generic NPC to fit your needs.**

The author has never even heard the words, "density of information." Two or three generic NPC's per page? Are you kidding? No discernible order at all. No table of contents—or any sort of reference table at all. It's literally just a heaping pile of 100 generic NPC's. I don't know what how this thing was meant to be used, but *not* at the table, that's for sure. If you're not using it at the table, that means you're using it during planning—but if you're planning, again, you can come up with better in less time than you can find it in here.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
