Ironsworn Lodestar is your quick reference guide for the Ironsworn tabletop roleplaying game. It includes the essential rules, moves, and oracles. It's everything you need to keep your story moving.

  • Character creation walkthrough
  • New stat options to fine-tune the tone of your game
  • The essential rules and mechanics, summarized
  • All Ironsworn moves
  • All Ironsworn oracles (plus a bonus oracle)
Important Note: This product includes reference materials, moves, and oracle tables for the core Ironsworn rulebook. It does not include material from the Delve supplement. A consolidated reference guide is tentatively planned for development, but there is not yet a timetable for release.

This product is offered Pay What You Want. This means the PDF can be downloaded at no cost and the print version can be purchased for a price as low as the actual cost of production (currently about US$3.50). You can set your own price over these minimum amounts to show your support and encourage continued development of the Ironsworn system. I really appreciate your support!

If you are running a convention game and want multiple print copies as player handouts, or if you have limited ability to pay because of financial hardship, please make your purchase at the absolute minimum.

The print version shows as "color" in the product summary, but the interior of this product is actually black and white. The color printing process is used for heavier paper and improved image quality.

Ironsworn Lodestar is letter-sized (8.5x11), 34 pages, heavyweight 70# matte paper, glossy color cover, and black and white interiors.

Are there any plans to update Lodestar with content from Delve?

Are there still any plans to update Lodestar with content from Delve?

Great system and superb rules reference guide. Have one problem, we don't appear to be able to print the 'Lodestar' version.....some pages will print, some only print a single righthand column and some pages miss out all the diagrams. Any ideas please?

Sorry for the trouble, Emma. This isn't a problem that I've heard of from other users. I just did a test print here and it worked as expected. Have you tried switching to another PDF reader and printing from there?

I'd check your ink levels and make sure the print setting is "fit to page" or whatever ensures that it's not printing off the page.

Is there any chance that this will be updated with Delve tables like Aspect and Focus? Or a Delve Lodestar might come out?

I am considering an updated reference guide for release later this year. Holding off for the moment because there's a chance that 2020 will see one more mini-supplement for core Ironsworn, and I'd like to ensure that an updated reference guide includes everything.

Not sure why I can't review. However, the fact that the creator has put out such a complete, well designed game system for free/pwyw is remarkable. This is among the most professionally produced free products on DriveThru. It's a solo RPG, GM-less RPG, world building tool, GM toolkit and more. Boss.

Hey, I'm extremely new to RPG games. I'm very happy to see one that you can play solo. I haven't yet read the rule book, but can you create your own map? I had this crazy idea that maybe I could overlay a map of England and then create smaller maps of castles, villages, etc, as I stumble across them. Thanks Shawn for making this game possible. I'm going to buy the printed version of everything as well.

Hi, Gary. Thanks for your interest in Ironsworn. Creating your own map as you go would work just fine, and a map of England would probably give you a very good "blank slate". Let me know how it goes!

The best Lite edition I've ever seen. Why? Because it cuts out what a guy doesn't need while keeping all the neccesary bits that you need at the table. I used pdftopocketmod on this, and I have the pdf version of the full rulebook on my computer for if I need it. So far, haven't even pulled it up.
EDIT: Please be sure to have a Lodestar edition of Delve and Sanctuary, if you would.

Is the Lodestar book a supplement or more of a quick start rules guide (like the description sounds) and thus uneccessary if you have the core rulebook?

Yes, it's intended as a table reference and is mostly material from the core rulebook. There is a couple of extra bits that might be worth the download for you (an additional oracle and an option for alternate stat arrays). Feel free to grab it at zero cost. You can also watch the video linked above, which goes over the purpose and content. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
