The 20-ton launch is among the smallest general utility craft in common use, manufactured in many configurations throughout known space. This publication deals with nine common variants (including an armed version -- the 20-ton gig). The vehicle's low price and simple construction make it a very popular basis for conversions and add-ons. This book contains nine variants on the same basic design, and includes deckplans (scaled at 1/2" = 1.5 meters) and game ratings for Classic Traveller, MegaTraveller, and GURPS Traveller.

In addition to the standard, unmodified launch, this book describes:

  • The Lifeboat variant, carried by small merchant starships, and equipped with emergency low berths for 24 passengers.
  • The Liaison Launch, for use as a mobile office/headquarters by business magnates or military officers.
  • The Survey Launch, used by scientific missions and bases.
  • The Search & Rescue variant.
  • The Hunting Launch, carried by yachts and safari ships.
  • The Retail Launch, used by retailers in remote areas as a mobile "general store."
  • The Estate variant, used by managers of large plantations, factory farms, estates, and wilderness preserves.
  • The Gig (Armed Launch).

This is the third book in a series of deckplan and short adventure books (in PDF form) by award-winning Traveller author Loren K. Wiseman.

Several varieties of the 20 ton Launch, with CT, MT and GURPS T ratings, an excellent and very useful product. [...]

For the money, this is a handy guide for ready-made Traveller launch/gig/lifeboat variants. You won't get a lot of bells and whistles - no rendered external views, the fluff text is brief & utilitarian - but you do get nine deckplans of described [...]

This product is very much in the style of the original Traveller "Little Black Books". It presents the classic workhorse of small spacecraft - the 20 Ton Launch - giving more detail and some background flavor over the basic rule book descript [...]

More of what one expects in a plan by LKW – great descriptions of useful ships with playable plans. LIKED: I found the variants to be even more useful than his other products. I think that there really is a version for every need. I saw a diff [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
