We began posting "Sage Answers". Essentially, we're taking questions we've been getting and we're answering them 5 to 10 at a time. https://rtalsoriangames.wordpress.com/2018/08/14/the-sages-answers-part-1/ We'll be pulling them together into an errata/FAQ at the end.

So far, I like the book. It's pretty, the combat is deadly... but I have a couple of suggestions:

* A more complete Campaing book. I mean, I have more information in my "The World of the Witcher" book than here. And why there isn't any timeline? The world info seems incomplete.

* A Player's Guide or something similar with more options would be nice too.

* A "combat lite" could be good. I'm a GURPS fan and I do not bother with tables and stuff, but a faster combat could be a nice add. Likewise, a couple of Optional Rules for standard combat ("instead of using that, use this").

* Speaking about GURPS... instead of random effect in combat, we could have something more intentional. I saw that we have rules for Hit Location but we don't actually have rules for each body party. I mean, in GURPS we have simple rules for that ("do X damage for that part and it's crippled, do 2X and it's gone").

* I like the idea of...See more

There's a lot of neat ideas there and I'll pass them along to the team. On your last point, the sidebar "Random Chance" on page 25 specifically notes you can choose from the options available instead of rolling for them. Such a thing, of course, should be worked out with your GM.

Thanks for the answer!

About the Random Chance... well, it's ok with normal characters. But Witcher PCs use a different Lifepath and in many of the random options are negative, with few real bônus. With a normal character, you get different skill bonus according to your origin. And it's fine! But that's it's not the case if you are a Witcher. Just look at the Trials Table: 1 - penalties, 2 - nothing change, 3 - bônus. So, I think that the "pick up what you like" would seems odd.

Noob question, what is the difference between odd and even roll?
Customer avatar
Aapo T August 14, 2018 7:37 am UTC
When you roll a die you get an even roll when the number that comes up on the dice is a even number ie. 2 or 6 and an odd roll is when the number is an odd number ie. 3 or 7. I hope this answers your question. It does not matter which die you roll here. You could even do it with a coinflip. Just make sure you know which side is even and which is odd.

Do they intend on making more physical copies available? If so, when should we expect them to come out?

Yes, we do. Right now we're looking at the best options for printing and distribution. The demand at GenCon was something of a surprise (maybe it shouldn't have been, but we admit it was) and if it were to be repeated in online orders our previous method of doing all the work ourselves would lead to long wait times for fulfilling orders. We'd rather get it right this time out of the gate.

Anyone know how a Mage can gain more spells? Is it a training/given by DM thing? Or can they purchase spells via IP?

Is there any update to when the booked mark PDF will be out. Liked the book quite a bit. Also I was lucky enough to be at Gen Con and got several copies of the book. Nice quality glossy paper. I do hope the physical copy is released through distribution. It is very nice book.

To the reviewer who indicated that the called shots do not match the critical they do. Just assign the critical to the called shot location. There are ones for the head (two, roll die odd or even or simply pick one), chest arms, and legs. I also believe that the d10 explodes so there is some randomness to die rolls even with high stats and skill.

The official method is "Critical on called shot goes to the option on the list which makes the most sense for the targeted area. For torso and head, roll 1d6. 1 - 4, choose the lesser of the two options. 5 - 6, choose the nastier of the two options".

We're working on the update now. I'll be posting information on it as we go. We've begun answering questions with an eye towards an errata/updated PDF.

I really love the book, today we did our first session and it was a blast. I'm the master and i had problems for fast and strong attacks. As i read the fast strike let you hit twice for no penalty... So that'a win-win right? I should always do a fast strike instead of a normal strike (put aside the Strong one). Do monsters make them too? The thing that's bothering me is that on the simulated combat on the combat chapter none hits twice, why wouldn't they? Fast strike is free

I might be wrong, but I believe the reason you'd want to go with a strong attack it if the target has a lot of armor. With the light attacks the stopping power of the armor would apply twice, but only once with the SA.

Strongs attacks deal double damage, but you do only one attack with a -3 penalty.

What is the Bounty used for on the Bestiary stats? Coin? Experience? Is this a Cyberpunk thing? Cannot find it in index what you are supposed to do with it? Any thoughts?

Good question. My gut says that's the standard payment in coin for killing such a monster. I'll add the question to our list for the Sage's Answer column on our blog, though.

Do I need to know anything about the Cyberpunk system at all before buying this, or does it explain itself enough to teach others?

It explains it on it's own, don't worry about it. It's based on cyberpunk system but it's a separate rule-system and not a supplement so it explains everything you need to know.

As far as I know, it's based on Cyberpunk 2020's system, although I can't confirm that because I haven't played Cyberpunk myself. This game uses a d10 for skill checks and a d6 for weapon damage and for rolling on some tables.

It is look like rules about Damage Resistance and Armor Piercing from pages 154-155 and 72, 78 are different? Which variant is correct?
Customer avatar
August 14, 2018 11:06 pm UTC

Hello! This question was answered in our first Sage's Answers column on our blog. The information on page 155 is correct. Standard Armor Piercing negates Damage Resistance while Improved Armor Piercing also treats armor as ½ its current value.

Do I get this right, the regular price for this is 50$? Just for the PDF? What would a physical book cost then?
Customer avatar
Marcus B August 09, 2018 8:26 pm UTC
No, a lot of sellers on DTRPG list the book price as the original price and the PDF price then as "discounted".

I don't get the rule about strong and fast attacks while using bows (page 153) ... The book seems to suggest that there is an advantage in using strong attacks with bows, (it double damage at the cost of -3 in attack roll) but not with fast attacks, since bows cannot attack a second time like melee weapons ... Sounds like a bug to me.
Customer avatar
Brandon R August 09, 2018 5:18 pm UTC
I think it's just similar to the -5 attack for +10 damage in D&D 5e. Sacrificing accuracy for damage, and just using the same strong attack rule to avoid extra clutter.

First things first, this is a great book which did a very good job creating the world of the Witcher. It's brutal, gritty and definitely allows the DM to make a lore-friendly story. The crafting and utility of the different classes is also on point. The one aspect I was slightly disappointed in was the bestiary. Although it includes some detailed info on the monsters, I would love to see a wider variety of monsters to pick from to truly showcase the types of beings that exist in the world. I think having monsters/enemies such as Foglets, Wild Hunt, other vampire classes and Leshens would be fantastic additions.

Key skills are the skills of your chosen profession, basically they can only be learned for that certain profession.
Skills can be learned by anyone.

It's like heart surgery can be learned only for doctors at the university and by practicing in a hospital, but wound treatment can be learned on youtube and treating your family if they cut themselves.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
