Can’t put it down, can you? You know what’s in here. You’ve seen them. The twisted ones, the arrogant ones, the lost ones. Oh, you’d like to walk away and life be all cake and daisies, but you know you’re going here instead. You’ll try to convince yourself it’s because you’re greedy for the loot, or can’t resist a fight, but we all know the truth. So ready your sword, clean your pistol, and watch out for that dog – he might be small but he’s unreasonably vicious.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay takes you back to the Old World. Get the gang together, create your (anti)heroes, and set off to make your way through the vile corruption, scheming plotters and terrifying creatures intent on destruction.

The Fourth Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Rulebook contains everything you need for grim and perilous roleplaying adventures in the Old World.

Anyone know when the timeline is set? The preview map looks totally different to 1st & 2nd Ed versions.

IIRC the in-game current year is 2511 IC and Emperor Karl-Franz I has been on the throne for almost a decade. The map is pretty much the same. It might be the art style throwing you off, IDK

Not his first attempt either. Now that the hardcovers are being shipped, there will be one last ditch attempt to troll.

We'll have it at the end of November (hoping no other problems will pop). The boxed set will arrive just before Christmas....what a romantic planning :-/

The core books ship (well, the copies going out from the UK warehouse anyway) at the end of this week / beginning of next (regular version only ... collector's edition wont ship for around 2 more weeks)

I do wonder if the physical copy of the Starter Set will slip to December or not, and I also wonder if Rough Nights & Hard Days will slip from November to December or even January.

How does this compare to WFRP 2E?

To me, it's nearer 1e than 2e. Others may disagree.

It definitely draws it's inspiration mainly from 1st edition. How this compares to 2nd edition is that there are a few more stipulations in character generation (Class distinctions are reintroduced for example), while there is a bit more setting detail in the corebook. There are numerous little differences, but the overall feel of the game is pretty much what it has always been. With a mooted deluxe version of the classic Enemy Within campaign to be released in the forseeable future, the creators are very much aiming to celebrate the spirit of the game.

I was just wandering if you could upload some lighter version of the pdf. My tablet is having a hard time rendering it. Great example is Zweihander, they offer two versions of pdf with different dpi.

If I loved 3rd edition but really couldn’t stand any of the earlier versions, is this for me?
I.e. is it more material for the FFG version, or is it a “Pathfinder” retake on the older stuff?
Thanks for any advice!

This is 1e & 2e inspired. Most of us despised 3e. This is nothing to do with FFG. FFG have lost all rights to have anything to do with Games Workshop's licenses. This wont be for you.

I think you are one of the few, far and wide, that loved 3rd without liking even the 1st edition.
No, I don't think will be for you.
But, to be honest, I would give this a try.

3rd edition was nothing WarHammer, system wise, and never will be.
I still found 1st edition more pleasant, but this 4th is really come close, polishing a few aspects.
Perhaps, 1st vs 4th, I like more the arts of the 1st. System wise 4th is perhaps a step forward.

Thank you the response. Based on Cubicle 7 site looks like they have it. I guess my question is when will stores in the US get the physical copy?

no-one has the hardcopy yet. it isn't out yet. it is due this month though. direct pre-order customers will get their copies first, then distributors and retailers will get their copies.

Is that an October release to the pre-order buyers or to the retail market? I'm, sorely tempted to cancel my order for the spiffy version and just get the regular rulebook. I hate to pay a lot for a fancy copy that will have the same errors in it as the regular rulebook, whether the errors are mere typos or rules changes and such (Witch Hunter without a pistol?)

October for pre-order. Maybe also for retail too, I cannot say.. Ranged weapons were kept from all starting characters except the Road Warden (who gets a crossbow) as ranged weapons are OP as **** in this system lol

Sorry, badly worded reply. October is for pre-order release, though retailers may or may not get their copies in October. It may be later than that. Also the PDF for the Starter Set may or may not get a release this month.

The website just says "September" for the starter set PDF, and October for the physical version. So, if they keep to that, it'll be out sometime in the next 19 days.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
