Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Core Rulebook

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Can’t put it down, can you? You know what’s in here. You’ve seen them. The twisted ones, the arrogant ones, the lost ones. Oh, you’d like to walk away and life be all cake and daisies, but you know you’re going here instead. You’ll try to convince yourself it’s because you’re greedy for the loot, or can’t resist a fight, but we all know the truth. So ready your sword, clean your pistol, and watch out for that dog – he might be small but he’s unreasonably vicious.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay takes you back to the Old World. Get the gang together, create your (anti)heroes, and set off to make your way through the vile corruption, scheming plotters and terrifying creatures intent on destruction. Prepare yourself for the struggle of the gutter, to fight for your survival, and to face corruption on all sides. Prepare yourself for danger, as lethal threats are everywhere, and you can’t face them alone. And, most of all, prepare yourself for the grim and perilous adventure of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay!

The Fourth Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Rulebook contains everything you need for grim and perilous roleplaying adventures in the Old World.Drawing inspiration from the legendary early publications of the grimdark RPG, WFRP brings innovative twists to build on the beloved classic.

Just commenting here because I can.
I bought the 70 dollar physical item, one of the best role game purchases in all of my 40 years of role gaming.
The physical item is as good as the print industry can make.

I wish more games could master the art of putting all the design in a single book, and NOT then ruin it with a dozen other books that eventually you can't live without.
Aside from superb adventure tomes, this is the only book you will need to play Warhammer FRP. And you don't really need the adventure tomes.

The best thing about Warhammer FRP, is in my view, it is not a level based design, and players are not locked into a class design. The magic isn't the same ole level based concept, and the characters can be several orders of magnitude more interesting than most rival designs. The monsters are more interesting. And you can be taken out with a barmaid armed with a beer mug regardless of how uber powerful you thought your PC was :)

The game books can...See more

I wish there was a version of this book with background images turned off. Boy does this thing render SLOW. Makes browsing and referencing a pain.

Super late here, but for anyone else with this issue on PC try SumatraPDF. It is free, and stripped down to get the most speed possible when reading PDFs. There are some World of Darkness books I can't open in anything else, because they are so resource intensive it takes 5 mins to get around in Acrobat.

Is there a write up of the Master Craftsman? There is Master Tradesman, which goes along with Trade. The Hedge Witch and Herbalist both show a Master Craftsman Talent. I first thought it was supposed to be the Master Tradesman, but neither have a Trade Talent.

I am assuming this book is focused on the Empire from looking at the expansions. Is there any plans to bring in Bretonnian knights or are they in the book? I loved 2nd edition Knights of the Grail.

Haven't heard a peep about Bretonnian knights. The only kind of human PC the book has stats for is Reiklander; the Middenheim book has Middelanders, Middenheimers, and Nordlanders.

Cubicle 7, thank you for updating rulebook with errata! It influenced my decision to buy this book. I hope you will treat your other titles same way!

Does this game work well with miniatures?

I think it works better with miniatures, especially because of becoming engaged in melee combat is a big deal and there is also a outnumbering rule that might be difficult to do with theater of the mind

Please update the WFRP Rulebook PDF with the Errata.pdf corrections so we can download a complete version. You'll save so many of us PDF users so much time flipping back and forth checking on updates. It'll only take you a few hours to complete and will have a better PDF product for years to come.

Agreed. Also, while you're at it a bit more optimization on the pdf would help. It's not bad, but sometimes the pages take more time to render than some much more graphics-heavy rpg books I use. Thanks!

Yeah, providing errata but not actually incorporating it into the product is pretty lame.

Sadly this will likely never happen. Incorporating errata requires re-formatting pages, updating indices, etc. I’ve asked this same question about other RPGs and manuals and have always gotten the same responses. It seems like it should be a simple adjustment of in-place text but if that text happens to change a column length or push something else into the next page or an art piece or figure no longer works in its new position then the entire book needs to be re-assessed. It can be done but when it is it is usually called a new edition due to the amount of time and work required.
If this were not a pdf and the rules were more in the form of a Wiki (similar to DnD Beyond for DnD 5e) then updating errata would be super simple and done as it arises.

Sure, but there was a preview version. I get the amount of work involved. I could see if it pushed something to the next page etc. The suggestion I offered as a compromise was to maybe have the text highlighted in some way to show that there is errata or make a hyperlink in the text. Could they add the errata to the end of the PDF and have the link jump there or show up as a tooltip? I really don't know if any of that is possible. I don't need a perfect new copy. . just some way to know something is off while referencing it.

I think the PDF price is good but there was a LOT of errata IMO. Maybe I can annotate the PDF myself somehow? I have not used them a lot in the past but I am likely to do most of my gaming online now. My 1st edition rules are full of stickies :)

Fingers crossed for something.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
