Product Description

In 1976, Bob Bledsaw and Bill Owen went into business as Judges Guild. Their initial offering was centered on a magnificent 34" by 44" map of the City State of Invincible Overlord. First appearing at Gen Con IX, it was sold literally out of the trunk of a car during the convention.

This map launched Judges Guild which began working on even more ambitious project, the Wilderlands of High Fantasy. This became an ambitious project of 18 22" by 17" maps covering a total area 800 miles from west to east, and 1,000 miles from north to south. Each individual map was divided into 5 miles hexes covering an area of 260 miles west to east, and 170 miles from north to south.

Now forty years later those maps have been redrawn in full color. These maps preserves the original detail and applies known errata and corrections. Each was drawn as part of single 6 foot by 8 foot map encompassing the entire Wilderlands then subdivided and cropped.

These maps are not a scanned images of the original but have been redrawn from scratch. The guidebook is also not a scanned image but has been relaid out from the original text with errata and corrections applied.

I thought I would be getting the overall world map as shown in the thumbnail pictured with the Title of the product. What is the product# for it?

What happened is that I thought I would put most of the PDF files on the Guidebook for the maps as DriveThruRPG doesn't allow bundles of Card and Book products.

It didn't work out as well as I liked. Your question reminded me of the issue. So I updated the map products with all the file found in the Guidebook product.

This includes the Overall map.

What are the percentages listed on the map legend next to some of the biomes?

How much of the terrain is covered by trees. Various terrain like woods may have scattered bit of forest. The same with plains, and desert scrub. Probably be a thin area along a waterway.

Good morning, sir,

I just bought the whole PDF set of cards. I wanted to be able to zoom in on the maps and add elements to customize them and the cities or other places defined in the world guide.
But I can't because the maps are password protected.
Is there a way to bypass this protection because as it is, the maps don't serve me the way I wanted them to.

I will work on this I prefer that the works be sold without DRM.

In the copy that I received this weekend, I noticed for each map that the halves don't go together end-to-end. Each side of a map-half appears to contains some hexes from the other half, so you have to try to overlay them and line them up to show each full area (like all of Map 6 for instance). This had become quite the challenge. :-) Why was the thought to do this instead of end-to-end?

Two reasons

The printing process is imperfect. It doesn't work out in practice and often there a slice of map missing.

So far I ordered several batches of proof s for all 18 maps and found they shift up to a 1/16" around. You don't see any white spaces along the edge because the file I send has what they call a bleed. A space of about 1/8" to 1/4" around the map that gets chopped off when trimmed to size. This is typical for full color printing.

This is particularly aggravating and obvious with dungeon maps where the author straddled them across two pages with no overlap.

The second is that if one to layout it out end to end there will be features that will straddle both maps that will be unclear or confusing because it is in two halve. To get full use one is forced to join the maps together. With a generous overlap, about 1 1/2" in my case, this is not as big of an issue.

I have a hamper full of rolled up maps I used over...See more

It sure did. Thank you for the suggestions with the thick see-through tape as well. I'll give that a try!

Out of curiosity Mr. Conley, are the maps vector or raster based? (wondering how well they would scale up to print out on my plotter)

Customer avatar

These are current raster based. However the PDFs are presented as complete maps at full resolution. So should print out fine at 22" by 17" on your plotter.

My plan is that after the release of the last maps I will make a master PDF that is vector based of all 18 maps combined. Everybody who purchased as least one of the guidebooks purchase will be updated with this in lieu of the preliminary raster based master map that currently included in the guidebook.

The preliminary master map included in guidebook download allows you to print all eighteen map as a single 5 foot by 8 foot map.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
