Selected Option:

Crifoth.

Once home to the most wondrous kingdom the world had

ever known, blasted to nothing in just a fortnight.

It is here that the fiends of Hell walk among us.

It is here where all things die.

WELCOME TO CRIFOTH

Demon invaders have conquered the world. What little survivors live scavenge a life in a hostile wasteland of death and debris. What existed before now lies buried beneath dunes of sand and the blood of the fallen. Water, the most precious thing in this blasted hellscape, is fought over by strangers and kin alike. This is the ravaged wasteland of Crifoth.

In this campaign setting book for the fifth edition of the world's oldest fantasy roleplaying game, you'll find:

  • All new character creation options—including new class options. backgrounds, races, spells, feats, and so much more.

  • New races! Be a member of the cursed Ash Elves, the forsaken Humans, the primordial Incarnum, the proud Orcs, the reptilian Ssuri, or the infernal-blooded Tieflings.

  • New game mechanics such as Blood, Grit, and Effort to give your games a focus on lethality and survival.

  • Numerous roll tables full of ideas to help bring your games to life.

  • Setting lore and adventure seeds to jumpstart your stories!

  • Incredible, thematic art by Runehammer Games, as well as Lloyd Collins, author of Iskloft.

The people of Crifoth are not heroes. In Crifoth, it is courage just to survive. Will you rise to face the tide of demons, or will you succumb to the hostile elements?

If crifoth is on the hottest side of the planet what about the other side of the planet where it is always cold what is that place like? Is crifoth located northern hemisphere of the planet?

What a great little 5E setting! Besides some lowres pics i couldn't find any flaw here.
Nice layout, great art (as usual from Runehammer), intriguing setting background, great rules changes/additions. Hope to see more.

Can you post some recommendations on how to convert 5e monsters to the Grit and Blood Point system? The method used for characters doesn't really work on monsters.

For example, take the Roc. It has 248 (16d20 + 80) hit points normally. Using the character method, you end up with 320 Grit Points (16 x 20) and 30 Blood Points. Some monsters drastically swing the other way, ending up with way less Grit Points than their Hit Points and only a few Blood Points.

In order to keep monsters in line with the Challenge Rating system I would assume that you'd simply substitute Hit Points for Grit Points on a 1 for 1 basis, and then calculate the Blood Points as a character. If that's how it is assumed to be done, maybe consider adding this to the PDF?

My players had a few questions about the Grit and Blood points rules and I think I know the answers but I wanted to double check.

1. I assume monks and barbarians, who don't normally wear armor, just don't get the benefits of absorbing crits against them? Their class abilities that grant AC bonuses won't work like regular armor correct?

2. Spells that grant you AC bonuses, like mage armor, also don't absorb crits correct?

3. Wild shaping druids would get a new pool of Grit and Blood points when they change shape correct? So any damage they take in beast form only carries over to their humanoid form if it exceeds their beast form's total correct?

4. Can the mending cantrip be used to repair weapons and armor that have the Broken condition?

5. How does the Outlander background's feature ability work with Survival Rounds? I ruled that it would basically let the PC take 1 Exhaustion point to find 2 units of food and water without making a roll (assuming...See more

Sorry for the late reply!

1. Nope. Absorbing crits is a factor of having something between you and your flesh—Unarmored Defense won't cut it, nor would Mage Armor or less "tangible" armour sources. At the end of the day, it's up to GM Fiat: can you imagine the armour being broken and repaired later? If not, it shouldn't protect from Crits.

2. See above.

3. Correct.

4. Absolutely!

5. The Outlander feature doesn't work, I'm afraid, unless you're in a really verdant corner of Crifoth. The Outlander feature requires water and game to be readily available, which is not the case. If you're adapting the Survival Rounds to another setting, I'd suggest the Outlander is a 1/per day use ability to supercede the Foraging action.

Sorry for the late reply!

In terms of using things in the Monster Manual or other monster sourcebooks, almost anything can be adapted to Crifoth. Change its appearance to be twice as lethal and twice as monstrous. For demons specifically, all of the creatures with a Fiend or Abberation typing are good picks.

It'll be featured in the free Crifoth Bestiary coming soon. In the meantime, use the stats of a warhorse (Appendix D of the 5E PHB).

Thanks! Follow up question. Under Critical Hits it mentions that "Whenever a creature scores a critical hit, the damage is rolled as normal for the attack. However, this damage is dealt straight to the target’s Blood points, bypassing any Grit points they may have."

Does the damage roll still receive the extra damage dice for being a critical hit? Or does the critical hit get treated as a normal hit and applied directly to the target's Blood points?

In core 5E, twice as many damage dice are rolled in a critical hit. In the Blood & Grit system, no bonus dice are rolled. Instead, the damage bypasses Grit. For example, your longsword will still do 1d8+3 damage, but it deals Blood damage, possibly knocking out a character in one hit. In core 5E, that critical hit with a longsword would do 2d8+3 damage instead.

Correct. A Primordial patron we were developing did not make it to the final version. That line there is a vestige of that version that we overlooked. Thanks for catching it!

Can you clarify what system this is for? Is this for 5e, or some kind of OSR? Also, can you describe the setting a bit more? Is it more of a fantasy hellscape, or something more along the lines of Gamma World or Doom?

Hey Max! Our setting is designed to be played with 5e. The setting is a post apocalyptic hellscape where demons have won and rule over the remaining survivors. This world isn't about hero's but survival at any cost. It is a high magic, high fantasy world.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
