TIER The Enhanced Role-Playing Game 2nd Edition is a revolutionary tabletop RPG game that offers D&D style gameplay, but there are NO CLASSES!

TIER uses a system of Masteries, similar to Feats but much stronger. You start at level 1 with 3 or 4 Masteries, depending on your starting race. As you gain level-ups, you select new Masteries to empower your character. There are over 100+ Masteries to choose from, allowing you to make an infinite number of unique characters.

Characters can play from levels 1-40. You also gain experience and level-ups faster, which means more fun and less time waiting to get stronger.

Spellcasters now have more unique spells while warriors have Masteries that allow you to avoid, block, and/or reflect spells.

Characters also gain special Transformations at levels 16 and 36. Transformations significantly alter your character, providing additional bonuses, powers, spells, and etc. There are about 30 different Transformations, including an Alien, Chamelion, Constructoid, Diamond, Fey, Half-Dragon, Half-Demon, Half-Angel, Half-Beast, Instability, Lotus, Shadow Hunter, Surrealist, Tranquilty, Racial Paragon, Elementals, Undead, and etc.

Most importantly, TIER only utilizes the 1D20 die, which reduces the number of dice rolls and number-crunching. Using less dice speeds up combat and allows more time for role-playing.

This product gives you everything needed to play the game, including game rules, magic items, monsters, character sheets, and multiple campaign settings, sample characters, all with full color and b&w illustrations.

This book has been professionally reviewed by Roleplayers Chronicle, see quotes below:

"If you are a fan of the D&D 3.5 style of play this book might be a 10 for you." - Roleplayers Chronicle

"I really like some of the changes the developers of this game made." - Roleplayers Chronicle

"The TIER approach really stands out as you get to higher levels of play." - Roleplayers Chronicle

"Because there are no classes the player has much more flexibility which is great, the introduction of masteries which, in my view, are a combination of class features and feats, works really well." - Roleplayers Chronicle

"This book takes the place of the three traditional core rulebooks that we have come to know, which is a good thing. This system is designed to take characters into high-level play which has the added value of cutting out the cost of some additional books." - Roleplayers Chronicle

"I love the classless system as it allowed me to make the character I wanted to make, not yet another cookie cutter (insert class here). The masteries concept is great, it really trimmed off some of the feat fat that has bugged me for years." - Roleplayers Chronicle

"Check TIER out and even if you don’t completely switch over to its system, there is a lot of goodness in this product." - Roleplayers Chronicle

Is the magical system vancian?
There is the divine/arcane/primal/psionic division?
Are the divine spells divided in domains?
Customer avatar
Matt S July 31, 2018 2:13 pm UTC
Yes, it is Vancian.

Yes, the Divine magic is divided into Domains.

No Primal.

Some creatures have psionic abilities.

Is it possible to create a pc with a very restricted access to magic? As example: a rogue who can cast only Illusion spells, a dwarf with only Earth spells.

To cast magic, you must select a magic mastery at level 1. There is Divine Magic, Nature Magic, Arcane Magic, Chosen Elemental Magic, and then cleric domains which can be accessed through Cleric Duty mastery.

Domains have a combination of spells, not only divine.

If you want restricted magic, then take Cleric Duty mastery. This mastery allows you to select two different Cleric Domains. You gain all spells and powers of your two selected cleric domains.

Thanks. Combat maneuvers (trip, disarm and others) trigger attacks of opportunity?
Customer avatar
Michael M August 03, 2018 5:36 pm UTC
Yes those maneuvers provoke attacks of opportunity. However, if you get Improved Special Attack Mastery, then you get bonuses and you no longer provoke attacks of opportunity.

As a person who has really had difficulty enjoying any d20 systems I gotta say that this one has me convinced otherwise. Been playing it a bit and enjoying it as a Kobold Crossbow Pony Archer. The one thing I have noticed so far is that many of the derived stats of the various animals (not sure about monsters because I have not been looking at them) seem to be wrong. War Pony and Cheetah (The ones I have used) AC for base, touch, and flat footed all seem incorrect. We have simply been recalculating them but maybe there is something we are missing.

Also, is it seems that using a single weapon the most attacks you can get is 4 attacks but with Dual Wielding you can get 8 attacks. Is that correct?

EDIT: It seems that you can use any type of magic with any mental stat, is that correct? It really allows for very different types of characters. If that is the case, could I suggest making the Mount Lover Mastery 14+ Cha, Int, or Wis? It seems Cha has been divorced from the holy paladin aspects...See more

I am glad you are enjoying playing TIER. You have many good questions, so I will answer each one below.

Monsters and animals often have different stats than regular characters. In other words, animals and monsters don't follow the rules and may have different stats than what you may calculate or expect. That being said, this is the 2nd edition of the book, so the animals and monsters have gone through 6 years of play-testing to ensure they are balanced and an adequate challenge for the players. Animals and monsters also come in organizations or groups, so they are usually not alone and able to challenge players as a pack. I also made major improvements to the Animal Companion, Mount, and Familiar level progressions, so they get stronger as you level-up. They get bonus Masteries, stats, and even a Transformation later on.

Dual wielding does give you a total of 8 attacks at EPIC levels (21st and up), but remember that your 4 off-hand attacks are dealing half damage. That means you have...See more

So a buddy of mine bought this, and I read it through, and I have to say, I really like it. A very modular, point-build 3.5/PF d20 system. Very versatile. Basically just as others have already described it :)

My only real criticisms are a) lack of bookmarks [kinda essential in a tome of this size. yeah, you can do your own bookmarks, and I totally have no problems with bookmarking PDFs myself, but I know some people aren't as accommodating lol] and b) the layout can mean if you aren't too eagle-eyed, you can maybe skip over what it was you were looking over. You have to stay on the lookout for font change and the numbering starting again to find the next section in each chapter. Particularly fiddly in masteries, skills, and spells. Not deal-breaking by any means, just a QoL thing for most.

I will be purchasing this and printing my own copy (spiral-bound so it lays flat, with tabbed dividers for ease of use)

I appreciate the compliments and criticism. Printed versions, both black and white and color editions, are incoming. They should be ready for purchase in about a week.

Lovely! I shall await those and see if my budget will stretch to a POD version ... in Colour!

Are you contactable in anyway beyond here, as I do have a few questions, cos we are concerned we are doing something wrong after creating a level 1 character who was +13 to hit, and +8 to damage, with his chosen weapon! (and could do 2 attacks per round!)

You can email me at or call 305-302-2462. As for your character, it sounds fine if he has all offensive Masteries. But what about defense against physical attacks and magic spells? I bet your character has no defensive Masteries and may die quickly. I would recommend either Blocking or AC and Saves Masteries at future level-ups to survive.
Customer avatar
Matt S July 14, 2018 9:55 pm UTC
Oh, I know he has poor defence, and the question was not regarding balance lol ... he was meant as a glass cannon

It was simply me checking to make sure Id got the numbers for the offence correct :)

Remember that this is the 2ND edition. This game has gone through 6 years of playtesting and revisions. Tier has more balance and customization than most DND style games. That's what makes it fun. I hope you enjoy it and please contact me anytime. I love new players and new opinions.

again, a slight miscommunication ... by balance, I did not mean system balance, I meant character balance :)

a great system, enjoying it very much ... the layout does need work ... really ... other than that, lovely :)

Book printing in color is now available! But to be honest, it may be cheaper to do your spiral self-print idea.

I just reduced the price of color printed books. I want customers to enjoy it, even if I make less money. Thank you for your purchase and I hope you enjoy the game. Ask me if you need any info or advice about TIER and I'll gladly reply.

Printing a document of this size at a Kinkos, UPS, Staples, etc is pricey. Typically it is $0.09 a page black & white. Double that for color. Just an FYI

I print my PDF's off at my office since we have color laser printers that do double-sided printing. Then I spend maybe $4 at UPS to get them spiral bound.

I've been a printer for a hell of a long time now. I split large tomes into chapter books, as they work better for use at the table, and I print dupes of key sections, as that helps even more. I do my own binding too ... spiral, velo, perfect, booklet, hardcover ... whatever I feel suits the project, depending on whether I'll be using it or just dsiplaying it.

I'm also not in the U.S.

Nice! Print that book and play! I've already got people telling me about their new character builds. I totally love being a DM and player for Tier.

I think it's super cool that you're a printer. I hope you start playing Tier soon. Can't wait to hear your stories.

It will be my big project next month ... split it into player-friendly sections, print them up, and get a game running

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
