What's the difference between 2nd and 4th? I have two different PDFs available.

Blessings of the Glow upon you. If you don’t have time to listen to the podcasts mentioned around this page, let me dispel an oddly persistent notion about the “completeness” of the illustrious MCC shaman, with the proviso that I am still sympathetic to the cause of expanding the class.

The mechanical questions regarding the shaman are these:
How many programs can a shaman know? How does the shaman acquire them? How often can these miraculous pieces of technology be used in a day? What are the consequences of a natural “1”?

The core book gives answers to all these things, and the answers are consistent. 1) You managed to get 17 INT and plan to have maxed-out Patron Bond rolls? Okay, if you just go by the core book and you want to use that full INT allotment, you are going to need to take on a second patron in order to get programs five and six.
2) The book is pretty clear that these hirsute jungle-dwellers are not making this technology themselves. Your...See more patron gives it to you when you bond and at any appropriate time thereafter, assuming your skull has the capacity. Some adventures give them out at key locations, which is another option. Some GM discretion is needed here, but that’s it. 3) Use per day is dependent on Patron Bond roll. 4) Each patron has a unique taint table for those pesky critical failures.

If you have put serious mileage into the game, you know there is no structural need for wetware beyond lv. 3. Level 3 wetware that comes from an AI patron is like a 15th level spell anywhere else. Like, Mayfair Games’ 1993 Role Aids Archmagic supplement level-of-surplus.

The 3rd level shaman is insanely powerful; the 5th-level shaman is a walking blast of nuclear star juice. Since the number of programs/spells you know is not dependent on your level, we are done here.

Now.

Do you love space-wizards? Do you have 17 INT and don’t want to divide your allegiance between two synthetic space gods? Okay, I get it. Me too. Enter James Pozenel Jr’s books plus Skeeter Green’s article in Scientific Barbarian #4. But let’s be clear. This is taking a character who is already incredibly powerful and versatile and making him even more off-the-charts-- and it is totally indulgent.

So I bought a hardcover at the FLGS with a code for the pdf. The book is 3rd print but the pdf here is 2nd and features a different sample adventure than the two in the new printing. Will the pdf here be updated to 3rd printing at some point soon? I like to print out the adventure module section to run it, rather than use the book and have no way to do it since this is the old printing

I bought the physical mutant astronaut cover. If I put in its code will I get that printing? I can't find the equivalent pdf on here

There are a variety of opinions about MCC. There are three on this page at the time I am writing this post. 2 are favorable, and 1 is unfavorable. I like the game a lot, and it harkens back to the old Gamma World and Metamorphosis Alpha games, but using the more modern DCC rules chassis. It is quick to make characters, and if you like DCC and want to play in world recovering from a long-ago apocalypse, this is a great game. There are only about 17 pages that are directly from DCC, the rest is new material with about 70 mutations, 9 Patron AI's (each with its own Invoke Patron AI results table, and three wetware programs (like patron spells in DCC)), around 60 artifacts, a bunch of AI, enough creatures in the bestiary to start play, and a zero-level funnel adventure (which is really good). There is a Facebook Page, Mewe Page, and a forum at Goodman Games, where you can post questions. While you will likely not get any official response, Goodman Games does not in general provide rules explanations or errata (leaving...See more it to Judges to make their own calls), there are a few posters who are pretty active. It is also easy to add material from other DCC-based games, including Umerica, that are good and could be added. Umerica has a very different feel and setting from MCC, and I prefer the Terra AD one over the more gonzo Umerica, but this is a preference. There are also reviews and comments out there on the Interwebs that are primarily based on the pre-final PDF, which are properly critical about aspects of the game that have been fixed in the final release. (Any that refer to missing rules like the dice chain or the Teleport Mutation are likely based on the pre-final PDF.) There are still some areas that could be clearer, as with just about any game (the Sage Advice Compendium for 5th Ed DND is 21 pages!). The book is complete and playable with one exception, which is the higher level Shaman wetware programs, but those don't generally kick in until 7th level. By that time, the Judge will have had time to decide how to fill them in. There are currently more than 10 official adventures and about a half-dozen 3PP adventures, along with some good 3PP supplements. If playing Mutants with lazer rifles, and humans with powered armor exploring ruins of the ancients for artifacts and secrets sounds appealing, give the game a spin. There is a free adventure called Museum at the End of Time that you can try if you want to check it out before you buy.

Worst product I've ever seen come out of Goodman Games. Feels like a Palladium game; a half-concocted idea built on the bare bones of a very well done game (DCC). The only posts ever made on the official MCC forums are questions about the mechanics, which are never answered because MCC's author no longer works for Goodman Games and no one else at GG cares to acknowledge MCC's existence. They have all but quit supporting the game. The original author still makes MCC products, but he can't even get a 3rd party license (which is free and available to just about everyone), so he sadly uses the DCC/MCC mechanics and format with the serial numbers filed off.

Took me 2 months to sell my greatly under-priced hard copy on eBay. If you're looking for DCC post-apocalypse, just use the Umerica products. They have a lot of heart and are filled with interesting ideas.

Is there a print version planned?

Just like DCC in that, there is enough in this core rulebook to have countless post-apocalyptic adventures but also gives room for the adventures to bring some amazing spice into the game and setting as well. A question about mutation checks. If you always add your level to them, how are you supposed to ever get a result of 1?

tldr: If you're a fan of DCC already, MCC is worth the purchase!
