The Tapestry of Fate

Watermarked PDF

Long ago, there was a young weaver by the name of Stanmir. He wove beautiful blankets and tapestries for the people of Plovda, a small Lithuanian village. When someone in the village was sick, he would weave them a blanket or shawl as a gift. The threads of Stanmir’s present would glisten, like silk in the sunlight. Days later, the recipient would recover from their sickness, many illnesses of which the village doctor would claim as fatal. Some would say that his skill was a gift from the gods.

You’d think that these gifts would make young Stanmir a beloved son of Plovda, but the people of Plovda are a fearful lot. While some thought his skill was a gift from above, many believed this was the devil’s work; this was especially true of Radovan, the village doctor. Stanmir was sickly and misshapen cheekbones and long nose looked gave him a very homely appearance. These physical flaws lead the doctor to believe his abilities were from the devil himself.

The only thing stopping the majority of the village from doing anything drastic to Stanmir is Teta, the kind maiden of flawless beauty who lives on the outskirts of town. She sees kindness in Stanmir and scolds any who tried to hurt Stanmir, cowing them into leaving him alone with her persuasive words.

Teta’s intentions aren’t pure. She only protects Stanmir to hide her true actions. She is the one causing the sickness befallen many in town. She’s a witch. She craves immortality. For each person that Stanmir unwittingly saves, she’s corrupted two more. She drains them of their life, one by one.

Recently, Teta has found that her rituals do not seem to be as potent in prolonging her life as they once were. Once, she could drain a person in a month and be satisfied. Now it seems more are required. This increased need is now being noticed throughout town. People are going to bed healthy and waking up near death— if they wake up at all.

People are now reaching a limit to their patience with Stanmir. He must be the reason death has entered the village. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to the villagers, he may be the only one who can stop it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
