This is the full version of Numenera Destiny. Check out the free preview.

They say there have been eight worlds before ours. Eight times the people of this planet, over vast millennia, built their civilizations, reaching heights we cannot even fully imagine now. They spoke to the stars, reshaped the creatures of the world, and mastered form and essence. They built cities and machines that have since crumbled to dust, leaving only their barest remnants.

This is the Ninth World. The people of the prior worlds are gone—scattered, disappeared, or transcended. But their works remain, in the places and devices that still contain some germ of their original function. The ignorant call these magic, but the wise know that these are our legacy. They are our future. They are the . . .

numenera-gold-foil-logo.png

Set a billion years in our future, Numenera is a tabletop roleplaying game about exploration and discovery. The people of the Ninth World suffer through a dark age, an era of isolation and struggle in the shadow of the ancient wonders crafted by civilizations millennia gone. But discovery awaits those brave enough to seek out the works of the prior worlds. Those who can uncover and master the numenera can unlock the powers and abilities of the ancients, and perhaps bring new light to a struggling world.

Numenera Destiny

Become a part of the setting, and help shape the future of the Ninth World. The people of the Ninth World are locked in a medieval-like state, a world of struggle and danger and often suffering—all in the shadows of the prior worlds’ wonders. The 416-page (plus double-sided poster map) Numenera Destiny corebook allows you to build adventures and campaigns in which players don’t just explore the wonders of the past—they utilize them to help lift the Ninth World out of darkness. You can make the world a better place. Help a community defend itself from abhumans or the iron wind. Create centers of learning or trade. Innovate, build, and protect. Manage an entire community and help it prosper and grow—or simply create new cyphers, a cool base, or maybe a vehicle for your adventuring group.

n2-art-vehicle-1.jpg

Discovery—through exploration of the weird and wondrous remnants of the prior worlds—is the core of Numenera play, and Numenera Destiny gives you new things to do with your discoveries, and entirely new and epic ways to structure your game. Numenera Destiny introduces three new character types, along with a number of additional character options, geared toward this innovative style of play. You’ll also find salvaging and crafting rules, additional numenera items, more creatures, expanded setting information, and four additional adventures. With Numenera Destiny, take what you discover and make use of it, for yourself or the future of the Ninth World!

You can't play Numenera with just Numenera Destiny—you need Numenera Discovery to play Numenera.

Numenera Discovery

The 416-page (plus double-sided poster map) Numenera Discovery corebook contains everything you need to explore a world of wonder, danger, and mystery. With streamlined, intuitive rules, you can create characters in minutes. The multiple award-winning system (Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Game; seven ENnie Awards including Gold for Best Setting, Best Writing, and Product of the Year) puts the emphasis on story and is amazingly easy to GM, both in prep and at the table.

n2-art-landscape-4.jpg

Numenera Discovery includes all the game rules and everything needed to generate characters, along with a bestiary, an expansive overview of the Ninth World, hundreds of numenera items, great game mastering advice from one of the foremost experts on the topic, and four full-length adventures. All wrapped up in the wonder and weirdness of the Ninth World!

Just got my hardcopy through the post. Really excellent product for a great system. Highly recommended for anyone curious about Numenera or the Cypher system generally.

At last but I had to learn it from a fellow fan, the handling of this is a total BS job, I will never pre-order another thing from Monte Cook, as they don't seem to care about fans unless the have sponsored their KS.

For those of you monitoring this. It has been released (files updated), even though the drivethru blurb still says preorder.

TL;DR: We should see our PDFs this week.

Anyone looking for an update, here's @MonteCookGames response to my complaint earlier today:

Let's be sure to hold them to this! I don't know about you, but I'm tired of being strung along...

On the MCG discord, Darcy (Community Relations Coordinator) just confirmed that it will release here either "late tonight or tomorrow morning." Even sooner than your tweet suggested, so hopefully very soon the wait will be over!

My local game store has boxed sets of Destiny and Discovery on its shelves right now. Is that a special edition or something?

They probably backed the Kickstarter. Although there are people who preordered the hardcopy who are getting shipping notifications now. And still no word on when we're getting our PDFs here on DTRPG.

Welp, it's August now, so "Numenera Destiny will release in July" is officially BS. If anyone is wondering when you'll get your pdfs, the answer is "sometime".

https://twitter.com/MonteCookGames/status/1023966881873620992

Hopefully this disabuses all of us of the idea of pre-ordering a pdf ever again (at least from MCG) - after all, it's not like they're going to "run out".

Monte and the gang are too busy patting themselves on the back for running 12 successful Kickstarters (not sure I'd consider the last 2 a success until you've actually, you know, delivered the products but whatever), partying at GenCon, and wallpapering all of their respective Twitter feeds (and your spam folders) with begs for their 13th Kickstarter - far too busy to flip the switch and give you the products you paid for.

I feel punished for purchasing this preorder. It still hasn't released yet, and if I had waited until July to purchase them, I would have gotten both books for $15 each instead of $20 each. I still don't know what the hold up is. I understand serving your kickstarter backers first since without them the project likely wouldn't have succeeded. My confusion is why its so hard to update the PDFs on all of your stores. Physical products, I understand, but digital ones should be available within hours of them being ready.

I hear you man, it's disheartening. I too have no issue with KS backers getting their stuff first, that's part and parcel of the whole KS process...that said, I think 3 weeks of exclusivity is more than adequate. Frankly, I'm not really clear on why every one of their books needs to be Kickstarted at this point. KS has grown into a tool that lets companies avoid being good at their respective businesses.

Leaving that aside, my biggest pet peeves are 1) this pre-order was sold with deceptive marketing (hell, this page still says the game is releasing in July and it's August 5th as of today) - side peeve, DTRPG should care about this too as this is their storefront, but they don't seem to give a rat's XXX either; 2) MCGs lack of ability to set and hold themselves to an actual release date (Monte Cook isn't some wide-eyed naif putting together his first DIY supplement, at this stage of his storied career he should be capable of setting a specific, realistic goal - an actual DATE, not just a month...See more

Not with me they won't, after this I am done with MCG pre-ordering, I can just wait for the book to come out in hardback. I ordered these because I needed them as my players wanted to use the new books and not the old, as it is we have started with the old book and will be swapping as soon as I get the PDF's and the players are a little pissed, but I have explained to them that it should all mesh without any problems (I am hopping it will).

"This is a preorder. Numenera Destiny will release in July."

July is almost over, you know.
Most of the times, being unreliable isn't a good commercial strategy.
I'm fine if you need more time in order to deliver a finished and polished product, but misleading advertisements are still annoying.
I hope you will avoid these kind of mistakes in the future.

Just got this thrpugh from facebook from Monte Cook Site.

Hi there! We don't have an exact street date yet, but DriveThru pre-orderers will receive theirs a few weeks before street date. The fulfillment order is Kickstarter backers, pre-orderers through the Monte Cook Games site, pre-orderers through DriveThruRPG, and then general sale. We will have a firmer street date to announce some time after Gen Con! We can't wait for you to enjoy these books.

Would be nice for them to trumpet that a little louder, maybe update their listings here. That will likely have to wait until after Gen Con.

This is the message I have just received from Drivethrurpg when I asked about when this was coming out.

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately we do not have much information nor control over which products our publishers will be releasing, in what formats, or when. We suggest that you add the publisher to your "follow your favorites" list. That way you can get updates on their products via email. As you have made a pre-purchase, you should received an email from the Publisher.

Thank you for your business and please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Nobody has been in contact with me, and to be honest if you are selling it on your site you should be the one to give me answers, you are selling Monte Cooks games so you should find out when they will be for sale.

"This is a preorder. Numenera Destiny will release in July."
"Place your preorders now, and get Numenera Discovery and Numenera Destiny a couple of weeks before street date!"

Considering that it's now 7/25, one of these statements doesn't appear to be true (unless you backed on KS, in which case you got your pdfs on 7/11). I love your games Monte, but you are the absolute king of dicking people around with preorders. I should have learned my lesson after last round of BS and just waited for the regular release. Between this and the debacle that has been Invisible Sun's fulfillment, I'm at my wits end with you guys.

They've done this with just about every 'pre-order' title they've released. Unfortunately MCG only seems to care about their KS backers - the KS backers have already had them for a couple of weeks, so we know the pdfs are in a finished state and it should literally only take a few minutes to make them available to the rest of us that have already paid for them. Instead we get nothing - not even a solid release date or a word on Twitter - yet they had the nerve to send me a promo for their NEXT KS project a few days ago. Making a third run at my wallet when they haven't yet delivered my Numenera books or Invisible Sun Black Cube was ballsy, I'll give them that.

MCG have become professional Kickstarters. If that's the route they want to take, more power to them, but if that is the route they're going to take then they should just stop doing pre-orders for non-backers, particularly if they're going to keep making deceptive/deliberately confusing or vague statements about release dates. It's unprofessional...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
