I found the Colonel lying near the door. Whoever had taken him down was a pro. I hoped they weren’t still…

“And who might ye be?” A long-limbed, sinewy man with a thick shock of red hair leaned almost casually against the doorframe. I hadn’t heard him approach. “If ye’re with that fellow there,’’ he indicated the prone figure of the Colonel with his chin, “Ye’d best be telling where me valuables are…or I might have to get rough with ye, too.”

Judging by his physique and the way he moved, he knew how to fight. But the streets of Calpurnia taught me a few things. I gave him my best steely glint as I slowly rose to face him.

Throughout literature and visual media there have been characters who have taken the path of perfecting fighting skills using their natural weapons: feet and hands, arms and legs. Preferring the power of the body over the power of the gun or sword, they manage to hold their own in most melee contests, and even sometimes prove superior to those who depend on weapons to harm opponents…although there are plenty of those, too. Some of these people’s names have become legend in reality and fiction: Bruce Lee; Toshiro Mifune; Jackie Chan; Wing Chun; Darth Maul; Batman; Rocky Balboa, The Three Musketeers, among many others.

The 2D6 system isn’t really designed for detailing such characters, preferring instead to fold the relevant skills into catch-all categories such as Brawling or Melee. However, some players might like the challenge of playing an unarmed combat specialist, or a hero who disdains the use of weapons for whatever reason and would still like the option of self-defense. 2D6 Martial Arts is here to help. It’s a simple system intended for the non-martial artist (like the author) to play an ass-kicking, fear-inducing, practitioner of unarmed mayhem while providing seamless integration with the rest of the 2D6 system and games that use it like Cepheus Engine and the Original Science-Fiction Roleplaying Game.

When words and diplomacy fail, it’s time for 2D6 Martial Arts.

Half page of not new rules, with some uninspired and fallacious assumptions, yielding a sub standard product.

The beauty of the existing Cepheus Engine/OSFRPG rules is that no new rules need be written; the existing rules can simply be reinterpreted to fit a variety of situations. That's what I did here, with the result of not needing pages upon pages of new rules. However, I'm not sure what you consider "uninspired and fallacious assumptions." Please clarify so I can make any needed adjustments and you can inform my other customers.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
