THE ALMANAC OF FANTASY WEATHER Volume One: SWORDS & SORCERY

ADD TO WISHLIST >

THE ALMANAC of FANTASY WEATHER Volume One: SWORDS & SORCERY contains a massive 1,130 pages, charting the daily (and nightly) weather events for over eight years for each of ten different "Sword & Sorcery"-type climates. Here, you will find cyclone lashed coasts, burning deserts, steaming jungles, howling northern wastes and more.

Adding weather to your fantasy adventure game campaign can be useful and fun, but most systems are either too simple to be satisfying or too complicated to be practical. The first volume of THE ALMANAC of FANTASY WEATHER gives you a total of 29,220 days of weather (yes, 29,220 - that wasn't a misprint), handily bookmarked by year and climate type. Each twelve-hour day or evening entry includes information on temperature (in Fahrenheit and Celsius) weather events - fog, thunderstorm, blizzard, sandstorm, etc. - amount of rainfall/snowfall, occurrence or possibility of lightning, wind speed, wind direction, phases of the moon, effect on movement rates and chance of getting lost. It truly is an almanac for the fantasy gamer.

No more annoying die rolling or consulting an app or online program to generate a random or patternless result. With THE ALMANAC you can see all of it at a glance. Whether you're using Dungeons & Dragons 5e, an OSR retro-clone or any other current or past game or mechanic, this is the last word on weather for your fantasy roleplaying needs. Good travels! And may the wind be always at your back!

Is this just a compilation of the Seven Years of Fantasy Weather, said compilation with more content, or different content in the same vein all together?

Great question!

Short answer: It’s entirely different content (and 11 times more of it) in the same vein.

Long answer:

1) Each of the three Seven Years products contains 7 years of weather for 1 climate type, roughly corresponding to the real-world climates of England, Iceland and the western coast of India. The Almanac of Fantasy Weather: Swords and Sorcery features 8 years of weather for each of 10 different climate types, corresponding to diverse climates in the Middle East, Central Asia and East Africa. The goal was to provide enough weather to cover an entire “Sword and Sorcery” world. The climate types are:

Temperate South
Southern Desert
Northern Desert
Arid South
Arid North
Tropical Jungle
Tropical Savanna
Southern Mountains
Northern Wastes
Southern Ocean

2) The weather charts themselves are very similar but with these changes:

The monthly and yearly summaries of the...See more

Thank you, Phllip. I appreciate that. I’m sorry to take so long (to say the least) to respond.

I’m now working on additional material to round out the Fantasy Weather family in line with an initial outline. If all goes smoothly, there will be five versions of The Almanac:

1. The existing Swords and Sorcery, featuring Middle East, Central Asian and African climate types,

2. a European edition, featuring diverse climate types ranging from the Scandinavian north to the mountains and marshes of Eastern Europe to the Mediterranean climates of Spain, Italy and Greece,

3. an Asian edition, featuring the climates of China, Japan, Tibet and the South Sea coasts and islands,

4. an American edition, featuring the diversity of climates in North America – from northern Canada to the US Southwest – and Central and South America featuring Caribbean, “Aztec” and “Incan” climes, and

5. a Rare Climates edition for compleatests, featuring...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
