Welcome to Christmas in July! In celebration, this digital title has been marked down by 25%! For more values, visit our Christmas in July sale page.

You are a dark elf. Your home, the towering city of Spire, was occupied by the high elves two hundred years ago. Now, you have joined a secret organisation known as the Ministry, a paramilitary cult with a single aim – to overthrow the cruel high elves and restore the drow as the rightful rulers of the city.

What – or who – will you sacrifice to achieve your aims? Will you evade the attention of the authorities, or end up shot in the street like so many before you?

Spire is a 220-page PDF which contains:

  • A quick and easy D10 system that lets you tell stories of brutal rebellion
  • Details on the districts, factions and personalities that make up Spire – the frozen high elf kingdom of Amaranth, the lawless undercity of Red Row, the mysterious Mortician sect and the bleeding hole in reality known as the Heart
  • Ten character classes, including the vagabond Knight, the sorcerer-artist Idol and the arachnid nurse Midwife
  • Multiple extra advances to sculpt your character, allowing them to learn the hidden magicks of the Ministry, fall back on their military training, or devote their existence to a mad cannibal king who lives under an abandoned warehouse
  • A gamesmastery chapter, written with an eye to help you craft conspiracies and power structures that your players can topple, subvert or be consumed by
  • Over fifty illustrations by the tremendously talented Adrian Stone

Just bought the game, but have a couple of minor questions. (1) What is the difference between the regular file and the "web_v11" file? (2) I've seen references to a quickstart version of the Spire and would like to try running that before mastering the full rulebook, but where can I get a copy of the quickstart?

1) The web v_11 file is more recent, with a few changes added in. It also has bookmarked chapters.
2) The quickstart file was released during the Kickstarter. It came with the rules, a few pre-generated characters, and an adventure. You can get all the bits aside from the rules (which you have) by downloading the pay-what-you-want Blood and Dust scenario here:

Yeah, I bought Blood and Dust (and every other Spire product I could find) but I was hoping that the quickstart would have a shortcut set of rules so that I could get into play faster. I have a lot of RPG experience with D&D style games, but not so much with narrative style play and some of the ideas are a little alien to me still. :(

Hi, is there going to be a PoD option ?

Hi Diogo, unfortunately we haven’t found a PoD option that meets our quality standards. But there are currently physical copies of Spire on sale through our website ( and we’re working with IPR in the US and Asmodee in the UK to distribute copies to game stores.

Thanks for the reply, Christopher, I've just ordered it from your website.

Any update on US side? Would love a physical copy, but ordering from your website is just too expensive.

Hi Jenna! We're working on restocking IPR now, so hopefully those books should arrive and be ready for distribution within the next few weeks.

Would it be possible to get a separate download for the character sheet that:
a) Doesn't pre-shade all of the resistance free slot boxes, and
b) Allows the background blue to be toggled on/off for home printing (e.g. as a PDF layer)?

Thank you. Looking forward to running Blood & Dust soon :-)

Really great stuff!
Any plans to make the highly detailed maps from the Kickstarter available for purchase? I’m starting a campaign and it would be really helpful to have a better map than the one in the front of the book.

Thank you! Yes we're going to be putting those up for sale in physical and digital form in the next few weeks.

Great! I have been having great fun running it but badly need a guide to Spire by level to complement the guide by Domain which is included in the main rules.

Hi - really sorry you're seeing that. At our end we can only see one version; we'll definitely version the file names from this point on.

There are two files named "spire.pdf" to download here now. Which is the newer one? Please version the file names if possible.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
