"Breezy fun…. [Deadball] captures the spirit and feel of the sport." —Baseball Prospectus

"With Deadball you can simulate America’s Pastime during any season, no matter where you are." —Sports Illustrated Kids

Deadball: Year II is an expansion to the bestselling Deadball: Baseball With DiceFeaturing new rules, a franchise generator, hundreds of fictional players and a new game mode—Nine Game Pennant—that drops you into the thick of a title chase, it makes the simplest baseball game on the market even easier to enjoy. It requires either the second edition or Deadball: 1909 to play.

What Is Deadball

Deadball is a fast-paced baseball dice game for one or two players that uses real statistics to bring the ballpark to your tabletop. Its elegantly simple rules are intuitive to die-hards and casual fans alike, allowing you to simulate a game between real or imaginary teams in about twenty minutes. Check out the free quick start guide to see how fast and fun it plays.

What's New In Year II?

Designed to make an elegant game even simpler, this beautiful 101 page book contains:

  • New rules for devastating injuries, lights-out relievers, vicious beanballs and benches-clearing brawls
  • An updated Hit Table that reflects our current, record-setting home run era
  • Nine Game Pennant: A new game mode that launches players into the climax of a classic pennant race
  • A ballclub generator that creates a legendary franchise in minutes
  • 16 fully-fleshed out fictional teams, featuring over 300 players and more than 75 detailed write-ups
  • Essays by esteemed national baseball writers Will Leitch, Britni de la Cretaz and John Thorn, official historian of Major League Baseball

Nine Game Pennant

The air is crisp. The days are short. There are nine games left in the season, and the championship is within your grasp.

Designed to provide the agonizing tension of a real pennant race in just two or three evenings of play, Nine Game Pennant focuses Deadball like never before. Pre-filled scorecards are given for each game remaining in every team’s schedule, allowing you to leap straight into the action.

This book includes two endlessly-replayable campaigns—one for 2018 and one for 1910. With Nine Game Pennant, it's October all year long.

Make it a Grand Slam With Deadball Complete: In Print or PDF!

A NOTE ABOUT DICE: This book does not come with dice. You can play Deadball with any standard set of RPG dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d00, d12, d20), or a dice-rolling app.

Big baseball fan and gamer here. Question: Do the game come with stats for current players or do you have to make them yourself? Thanks.

This can be answered two ways, so I will answer both.
Short answer: Yes, It is actually designed and intended to be played as a 1-player game. It DOES include a variant that allows 2-player play, though.
Long Answer: No. Deadball: Year II, as it sez in the product description, is an expansion/sequel(exquel?) to BOTH Deadball: BwD & Deadball: 1909. You CANNOT purchase just Year II and, within reason, play a game of Deadball.
Friendly note: the BwD page has a link to the FREE quick-start demo. Try it out before you decide to open yer wallet!

I have a general question. When rolling d100 (2d10), how are you reading 00,0 or 0,0 ? Zero or 100 ?

This has a lot of debate on the BBG Deadball forum, but I take the rules VERY literally. On pg. 10 of the BwD rules, it mentions d100, and sez, quote:
"...is actually two 10-sided dice that you roll together to get a two digit number under 100."
Because is sez 'UNDER 100', i interpret a result of 00 and 0 on the swing roll as "0".
Now add the Pitch Die result, and NEVER forget the Critical Hit rule...

Hey anyone know which 9-game pennant Win/Loss records are correct? The main .pdf has one set of numbers, but the Pennant supplement files have another.
Both sets total 145 games, so....which one?

Joined the Year 3 campaign on KickStarter to finally get the answer DIRECT from Commissioner Akins.
The Nine Game Pennant SUPLEMENT files have the correct win/loss numbers; the season records in the book proper are incorrect.

I have been playing the original Deadball for about six months, and I thought it was the best baseball simulator I ever played. Sure, I had a few minor quibbles (my walk rate was a little low, no rules for defensive errors, etc.), but still it was a game that "felt" like a real baseball game. Enter Deadball Year II. The walk rules have been updated, defensive errors have been introduced, along with many other optional rules. I played a rematch of Game 7 of the 1991 World Series. This time, Jack Morris was knocked out of the game in the third inning, and the Braves won in a blowout (yay!). However, in the course of the game there were more walks than any other Deadball game I ever played. I followed this game with a hypothetical game between the 1927 Yankees and Athletics. Still more walks, including two drawn by a certain Georgia Peach. I even had the game end on a potential defensive error, thanks to the new rules! In summary I have really enjoyed these rule updates, and look forward to many...See more

System won't let me write a review in the 'Review' tab, so I'll do it here. Full 5 starts from me.

I just finished my first game of Deadball Year II. I haven't followed baseball since the early 90's when Frank Thomas and Nolan Ryan were headliners, but this is a hell of a lot of fun and is a great way to get back into it...especially since I can play those old teams I used to watch just as easily as the included fictional teams. To start, I used a couple from the book and it was a roller coaster ride all the way through! Read the following in your best Sportscast Announcer voice for ultimate effect.

"We came into the 9th with the Charlottesville Flycatchers down 5-2. Adie Barnett was up first and struck out, then a series of heavy hits brought in Bond and Island for 2 runs leaving Anthony Mack on first leaving us at 5-4.

Glaze was looking nervous..he had to regroup and tighten up his pitching at this crucial moment; a quick strikeout for W'enberg followed by a ground...See more
