“Every species can smell its own extinction. The last ones left won't have a pretty time with it. In ten years, maybe less, the human race will just be a bedtime story for their children. A myth, nothing more.”

- John Trent, In the Mouth of Madness

Die Screaming is a love letter to horror cinema of the last four decades. Every game of Die Screaming begins with a supernatural apocalypse and characters based on classic horror tropes.

As the game progresses, the survivors learn that to fight marauding armies of aliens, demons, eldritch abominations, mutants, zombies, and even vengeful angels, they must in turn become monsters.

The 300+ page Die Screaming Director’s Guide contains everything a game master needs to run a game.

Run the campaign you want

“How do you think your God will judge you? Well, friends, now we know. When there is no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the Earth.”

- Dawn of the Dead

The Director’s Guide provides simple tools and ideas to run the game in various settings and styles.

  • Example settings and adventure hooks to kick off your campaign
  • Ideas for higher-level campaigns that occur as an apocalyptic Earth becomes unrecognizable to the human mind
  • Examples of strange and horrible planets, dimensions, and planes that characters can visit
  • Concepts to run higher-level campaigns
  • Optional house rules to change up the tone of the game and make it grittier and more difficult for experienced groups
  • Expanded sections on how to use the scavenging, trading, and sanity mechanics

Eldritch armies of the apocalypse

“You play a good game, boy, but the game is finished. Now you die.”

- The Tall Man, Phantasm

Do battle against the players with 219 monsters, each with full descriptions and combat strategies. Legions of abominations, aliens, angels, cryptids, cultists, demons, ghosts, and zombies wait around every corner.

  • Use modular monster templates to quickly build monsters with a long list of potential powers, keeping campaigns fresh with unpredictable challenges.
  • Learn how to create your own monsters with complete and transparent monster building rules.
  • Use the challenge point system to create mathematically sound encounters for the party to face.

A complete starter adventure, The Slaughter at Camp Dreadful

“When man meets a force he can't destroy, he destroys himself. What a plague you are.”

- Marlow, Thirty Days of Night

4-6 hours of content that advances new players to level 3, letting them learn the mechanics and tone of the system.

Are there any plans to release this in some print format?

No current plans. In the very long term there will be a "Die Screaming 2" all-in-one that will incorporate both guides/all expansions, have formatting changes and rules updates for readability and speed of play, and most importantly go out for free to holders of the Player's Guide or Director's Guide. That is the version that would get printed. This is still in very early stages, so there's no ETA, but we're talking a scale of many months.

I am looking into the issue. "Full size preview" is checked inside my publishing tools on all my products, and I remember seeing one before, so I have no idea why it's not appearing now. I imagine it is a site problem.

All of the products in my set should have full-size previews now. Took several days for the site to update after upload.

An enjoyable read, but lack of bookmarks makes it a pain to move between chapters.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
