A Feast Fit for a King

The smell of roasting meat fills the hall. Gossips whisper. Amours exchange furtive glances. A fight nearly breaks out. But then, with a fanfare of trumpets, the lord and lady enter—the feast is about to begin!

The Book of Feasts and the companion Feast Deck bring a a new format (in the form of a mini-game) that elevates feasts to the same level as tournaments and battles, as befits the biggest social events of the year!

Feasts are important and vital social events in the lives of any knight, on par with tournaments. Like tourneys, the feast is a vehicle for driving interactions, schemes, rivalries, and alliances between Player-knights and Gamemaster characters. With the rules presented in this book and the companion Feast Deck, you can make banquets guaranteed to produce interesting plot twists and lasting memories of social triumphs and failures, no matter the period from Uther to the twilight of Arthur.

What do you get?

Digtial (Multiple File Formats) - When you purchase the digital option, you get the 46 page Book of Feasts in PDF and you get the 154 card Feasts card deck in three formats: 1. PDF for home print-and-play, 2. PNG of each card face the card back for quality virtual table top play 3. JPG of each card face and card back at a smaller file size for virtual table top play where file size is a constraint. The virtual tabletop card images are perfect for platforms like Roll20.

Printed (Multiple File Formats + Card(s)) - If you choose to purchase the printed card deck, make sure you select the "Multiple File Formats + Card(s)" option so that you get all of the digital parts at no extra cost. This way you get everything in the digital version (see above) plus the 154-card Feast deck will be printed on premium playing card stock, poker-size cards and shipped to you. The deck will not come in any box or container so you might want to add on one large and one regular deckbox to your order so you have something to store your Feast deck.

You can also grab the form-fillable PDF version of the Feast Record for free.

The cards lack safe area and bleed, is there any way to add this without going through every card individually? As they are now, it is not possible to print them out in playing card format. Also, I get low resolution warnings when I try to get these printed :/

Are talking about the card images you get as part of the digital download package?
Some of those card images are intended for use on Virtual Tabletops and so are screen resolution not print resolution to save file space.
The download file for home printing is assuming you want to print on 8.5x11 or A4 type pages of cardstock and then cut out the cards.

If you want professionally printed playing cards then choose then at the top of this page choose the "Multiple File Formats + Card(s)" purchase option. You'll get all of the digital files, plus the cards will be printed and shipped to you.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately the ordering of the cards was not really an option, as the shipping costs and customs fees to the back end of Europe are very high :/

I understood there will be a discount for previous buyer during the time when card printing was unavalaible. Is it the case ? How does it work ?

Yes. We have now emailed out information to those who purchased the digital version during that time (except 3 customers who have emails turned off in their DriveThru email settings).
If you don't see the email check your spam folder.

Hi, the purchase with cards option doesn't seem to be available currently. Will I be able to buy the cards separately later?
Customer avatar
Steve W May 16, 2018 4:59 pm UTC
Nocturnal made an update to the print files (to incorporate minor errata) and is now proofing the new printed deck. Once the proof is verified, the printed deck will be made available again.
You can purchase the digital version now and the print version in a week or two. When the print version is available again, Nocturnal will send a discount code to anyone who purchased the digital version while the print version was unavailable so they don't pay anything additional for having purchased digital and print separately.

I'm in Italy and I would like to have book and printed cards...but I just noticed that they cost as much as the whole thing! about 50 dollars in total! Do you print cards only in the US??
Customer avatar
Steve W February 16, 2018 9:46 pm UTC
Yes, Luca, for now DriveThru only prints cards in the US and so the freight cost to Europe is high on decks this large.

Is there a print version of the book itself coming as well?
Customer avatar

Seconded. The texto mentions a printed option but I see none. Is it coming soon?

Hi folks!

Thanks for the questions. Due the fact that DriveThru ships cards and books from different printers and fulfillment locations, a print book and card set up would double the shipping cost for customers.

We wanted to provide an affordable and focused option and the decision was made to keep the book PDF only and provide a printed card option.

The printed option in the text refers to the cards.

That's cool. What option would I choose to have the cards printed?
Customer avatar
Steve W January 25, 2018 10:47 pm UTC
Hugo, to get the printed cards, scroll up to the top of the page and just to the right of the cover image select the option for "Multiple File Formats + Card(s)".

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
